With the days getting colder and the nights longer, so our dispositions tend to get a little gloomier as the sun sets on summer and autumn rolls into view. It’s only natural, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be addressed; the good news, in fact, is that there are many ways to keep focused, fit and positive when adapting to the new season. Here’s how; our 4 IDEAL ways to tackle low mood this autumn.

SPEND TIME WITH OTHERS

Sure, it sounds so simple, but when the outdoors becomes more inhospitable, a temptation exists to hibernate, shutting yourself off from friends and loved ones in the process. Don’t be a hermit; people are social beings, and it’s mentally important to spend time with others as often as you can. In doing so, you’ll ward off feelings of isolation and create stronger connections.

TREAT YOURSELF

Sometimes, we can get so absorbed with pleasing others and worrying about the world that we allow our own mental wellbeing to take a backseat. But trust us; prioritising your own peace of mind is sometimes the best thing you can do for everyone. Doing something for yourself can mean anything from buying yourself a new piece of jewellery, such as from a range of Annoushka bracelets, to simply taking a spontaneous day off of work to do nothing but relax and de-stress.

GET INTO A BEDTIME ROUTINE

In Autumn it’s all too easy to start getting into hibernation mode. However, if there is one thing that you need to prioritise more than anything, it’s sleep. Remember that it is impossible to give from an empty cup, and your body can only do so much if you’re not getting enough sleep every night to recharge your batteries. Therefore, a good night’s Zzzeds must always be at the top of your list of priorities when taking care of yourself.

FOCUS ON GRATITUDE

People often spend so much time focusing on what comes next, that they forget to live in the moment and be appreciative of what they already have. Practicing gratitude is a great way to boost your emotional wellbeing, as it highlights to you the number of achievements you have accomplished, all of the things about yourself that you have to like, and every aspect of your life that you have to be thankful for. And sometimes, it’s so easy to forget these things.

Looking too far ahead can become stressful as some milestones appear impossible to obtain, but if you take the time to appreciate where you are now, you’ll realise that you’ve already come a long way, and are well on your way to achieving even more.
