2019 is here, and with it another year of black is the new white is the new black is the new pantone. The same questions are likely to be asked again. Is navy allowed with black yet? Socks with sandals are cool now, yeah? And perhaps most pertinently; if the entire outfit is see-through, does it even exist? At times it can be impossible to keep up. But fear not, we’re here to help, with these; our 5 IDEAL ways to keep up with new fashion trends.
FOLLOW FASHION WEEK
After drying out and laying low in your pjs for the duration of January, it’s time to put your peepers above the parapet, take a look around and reignite your passion for fashion. Fortunately, for aficionados of all things haute-couture, Fashion Week begins in earnest in February. Yep, we know it’s a long way off, but fall and winter projections from Paris, Milan and London will be made on the catwalk in February, allowing you to keep well ahead of the curve if you keep your eyes on all things Fashion Week.
CHECK OUT CELEBS & INFLUENCERS ON INSTAGRAM
It’s become somewhat of a dirty word, the ‘influencer’; omnipresent, otiose and insistent. But the beauty of Instagram is that you can choose whose style you genuinely admire and only follow them. Be discerning but inquisitive; like and engage with stylish sorts who seem on the bleeding edge of cool, if that’s where you want to be. Treat celebrities who are lucky enough to earn your follow in the same way; don’t saturate your feed with the banal and inane.
SUBSCRIBE TO FASHION MAGAZINES
There’s something about the smell of the real thing, the glossy feel on your fingers, the visceral pleasure in flicking. Indeed, the page in print still carries weight in the fashion world. Vouge, otherwise known as the Bible to fashionistas, is the best place to start, subscription wise, but there are plenty of other publications which will satiate your thirst for fashion.
BROWSE THE WEB & SIGN UP TO BRAND NEWSLETTERS
Many online brands send out emails blasts with the latest trends they have in store prior to them reaching the high street. Exclusives, discounts and special offers abound in such newsletters, so it’s a good idea to sign up to as many as possible; usually, it’ll cost you nothing but your time.
BUT I’D RATHER BE A LEADER THAN A FOLLOWER
All this talk of inspiration taken from others. Well, we all know that those with their finger truly on the pulse don’t imitate, they innovate. You’re beautiful, unique and special. So instead of looking for trends to copy, set them yourself.
