The consumption of CBD or cannabidiol is growing in the UK. With the marketing of various derivative products such as CBD oils, tablets, and other consumables classified as food supplements, it’s only set to become more ubiquitous. Having been almost unheard of a few years ago, recent reports about its potential benefits have pushed it straight into the limelight.

CBD is a cannabinoid that we are now only starting to know well, mainly for its apparent relaxing effect. And who doesn’t love a little rest and relaxation, hey? Though we’re sure you’ve already heard the spiel, we’ll repeat it one more time for those at the back; CBD and cannabis aren’t one and the same, with THC levels determining the product’s legality. CBD must contain less than 0.3% THC to be legal and available in health food stores, since this level won’t get you ‘high’. Anyway, if you’re wondering how best to take the stuff, here’s a brief rundown; our 5 IDEAL ways to take CBD oil to aid relaxation.

CBD OIL DROPS

CBD oil drops are the most popular way of ingesting cannabidiol. It’s simply taken by placing a full dropper of the liquid underneath your tongue. You’re then advised to hold it there for a minute before swallowing, allowing the oil to properly disperse and be absorbed effectively into your bloodstream.

It’s important you always check the recommended dosage prior to using drops, and exercise a little caution, since it can be difficult to be truly consistent with their application. It’s also wise to first familiarise yourself with the oil’s contents, particularly in relation to CBD concentration. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that because you bought a bigger sized bottle, you are getting a higher dose CBD.

The key here is knowing how much CBD is in the mixture. CBD oil is usually made by mixing the hemp plant with a base such as olive or coconut oil. A reliable and high-quality CBD company must indicate the mg of cannabidiol in each drop bottle. Of course, you want to go for the bottle with the highest CBD concentration for best results.

CBD WEED

Yep, you heard right. Companies in Britain and abroad are now growing and selling strains of smokable CBD flowers, which contain all the flavour and aroma of marijuana, but without the potential to get you stoned and silly (because of that 0.3% THC level we mentioned earlier). Levels of CBD itself in the plant can reach 15%, which is a really effective way to get your hit without the high. T

To ensure legality, check that all CBD flower varieties from the trader you are considering are certified for agricultural use by the European Union, and post Brexit, that any legislation is updated accordingly. Also available via such CBD weed shops is legal hemp, for smoking, which like CBD, doesn’t produce a high but still has a fantastic aroma. Unthinkable just a few years previously, you can now enjoy CBD joints in a totally above-board way. So, set the alarm for 4:20pm, and embrace the opportunity to roll one up without any of those messy ramifications.

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES

You can also choose CBD oil according to your electronic cigarette of choice, should you already use one. Just remember to check that the cartridge is compatible with your e-cigarette; all indications are generally provided with the smoke. Since CBD oil vaporises at around 200℃, using an e-cigarette is an effective vehicle for consumption. We certainly wouldn’t recommend taking up vaping just to consume CBD, however.

CBD OIL TEA

CBD oil tea is ideal in cases of insomnia and other sleep disturbances. Indeed, it’s often recommended that sufferers drink beverages containing ingredients such as valerian, lemon balm or chamomile prior to settling down for the night. The addition of CBD, it has been suggested, may help alleviate a restless night’s sleep. To test the effectiveness of CBD oil on your sleep, you can also try hemp tea, which contains different ingredients depending on the product. Either way, the THC levels are low enough (below that all important 0.3%) not to cause any trippy dreams. Whether that’s a good thing or not, is your call.

CBD CAPSULES

For those who find the taste of CBD oils a little unnerving – unpalatable, even – capsules are their best bet. This is because most oils are generally composed of vegetable oils of olive or hemp providing beneficial compounds to the body and rich in essential fatty acids. Some have very strong flavours because they contain natural terpenes which contribute to the sometimes unpleasant taste. For those who do not appreciate the vegetable flavours of these oils, CBD capsules are an efficient, no fuss way to consume your daily dose.
