Hyatt Union Square New York 2

Need a hotel in New York? The Hyatt Union Square is the perfect place for the sophisticated urban traveller to rest their weary head after a long day (and night) in the Big Apple

There are more hotel rooms in New York than ever before and picking somewhere to stay in the city can be extremely tricky, especially if you don’t know it. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of staying on the island of Manhattan, we would definitely recommend staying at The Hyatt Union Square New York. Why you ask? Read our review below and find out!

IDEA

To offer guests the opportunity to enjoy ‘unprecedented services and experiences in the heart of Union Square’ and to be a ‘fresh offering for visiting professionals, while simultaneously offering homegrown culinary and nightlife venues for the local community’.

LOCATION

New York has a rep for being the city that never sleeps and the Hyatt Union Square is the perfect place to experience the city’s insomnia. Away from the noise but close to the action, the hotel is located in one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Manhattan and is a stone’s throw away from restaurants, markets, parks, shops and so much more.

The actual location of the Hyatt Union Square is on 13th Street off 4th Avenue. The hotel is just around the corner (2 blocks to be exact) from Union Square which is a place full of life and a must see cultural destination.  If you like people watching, then Union Square is the place for you. Here you can watch skateboarders and street performers in action. There are plenty of shops and it’s great for grabbing a quick bite to eat .

Union Square is also known as the gateway to downtown and the East Village and West Village are on the Hyatt’s doorstep.  You can easily walk to the Chelsea, the Flatiron district and the bars and clubs of the Meatpacking district. If you don’t fancy walking, Union Square is really well connected so the subway is a brilliant option. Also, like almost everywhere in the city,  you’re seconds away from cabs that will take you uptown or downtown. All in all, this hotel is in one of the best locations in New York.

Service

The service you receive at a hotel makes the difference between a very ‘nice’ hotel stay and a memorable one. You will definitely remember your stay at the Hyatt Union Square.  The friendly and helpful staff aren’t just angling for a tip. They are enthusiastic, genuinely friendly and happy people, the kind of people that brighten up your day a little.  The front desk staff are super welcoming and gracious with all the good mornings, goodbyes and welcome backs that you could possibly need.

Style and Character – sharp, chic and relaxed

The first thing that hits as you enter the lobby doors of the hotel is the amazing smell. A lovely fragrance is diffused in the lobby giving off a wonderful aroma which is simply delightful.

This place is cool, but not over the top. It has a funky and relaxed vibe with chic interiors designed by renowned interior designer Paul Vega. His aim was to create a ‘unique urban space that blends high-tech design with natural elements’ and this he did. The hotel even features a table in the lounge which sits on a tree stump salvaged from Hurricane Sandy.

Throughout the hotel the designer has used earthy and neutral tones with pops of colour everywhere, evoking the haute bohemian lifestyle of Union Square mixed with the artistry and creative culture of the East Village.

Rooms

Like the rest of the hotel, the rooms boast a contemporary and sleek design with modern décor and natural elements. Although the rooms are small, they have all the necessary amenities –  flatscreen TVs that link to an online concierge, work desks, a Geneva Sound System and other high tech stuff. The Hyatt signature beds are super comfortable and the showers have those big heads that give the perfect water pressure  – the be all and end all for a really great shower.

Food & Drink

New York is a city that loves its food and the Hyatt Union Square New York certainly accommodates both local and travelling foodies. Spoiling its guests, the hotel has three on-site restaurants:

1.  The Fourth, is an all-day American Brasserie which offers casual dining. The brasserie is reminiscent of a European style cafe and is bright light and airy with wide French doors for open-air dining. This restaurant is a great place for breakfast and even has a weekend Jazz brunch.

2. Sometimes after a long day you just need a relaxing drink and Singl provides a very enjoyable environment in which to unwind. It has an extensive list of  spirits, cocktails, wine and beer – hello happy hour!

3. Botequim is a vibrant South American restaurant serving small and large plates. It has an open kitchen providing glimpses of the culinary action so you know it must be good.
