YOUR IDEAL STYLE GUIDE ON WEARING JEWELLERY

Jewellery is a very personal part of your wardrobe and we’re all different when it comes to our preferences in sparkly accessories. Jewellery is also an important factor in outwardly projecting your style and personality, and it’s not always easy to decide on your next statement piece. When it comes to building your jewellery collection, you may need a helping hand in making the right decision.

From earrings to bracelets and everything in between, from costume jewellery to subtle touches, Daniella Draper offers these IDEAL tips on how to choose the right jewellery for you.

Accessorising With Jewellery

As much as we love adorning our wrists, ears and fingers with gems and charms, it’s important to know when to stop. Unsurprisingly in the fashion and accessories industry, there are certain rules that should be followed if you’re hoping to perfect your look.

When it comes to accessorising, you can dress it up or tone it down as much as you like. It largely comes down to your outfit and how many pieces and types of jewellery you’re hoping to pair together; the key is to not overdo it.

Of course, this can be hard when there are so many types of jewellery to choose from, in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials. Whether it’s fine handmade jewellery in London or bespoke pieces from Dubai, it’s crucial to explore just how they reflect your sense of personality and style, emphasising rather than overshadowing it.

Rings

Rings can be worn in a number of different ways depending on your personal style. A bigger statement ring is best worn with a cocktail dress, or to dress up your basic pieces. If you’re looking for more of an edge to your outfit, stacking your rings can work perfectly. However, make sure you choose flat edged rings or rings with a single stone, as they will stack much easier.  Be wary to not overload your fingers; one ring per finger is perfect, with a maximum of two a digit if you really want to push the boat out.

Necklaces

When it comes to wearing a necklace, you have a wealth of options at your disposal. Depending on your personal style, and what you’re wearing on that occasion, there are several different ways to wear necklaces. The versatile nature of jewellery is that you can create different looks and combine pieces, ensuring you get the most out of your jewels.

Layering necklaces has been a popular trend for some time, but ensure that you only layer fine jewellery; multiple chunky necklaces can look somewhat overpowering and brash. If you’d rather opt for a wide choker, then make it your sole statement piece; something that demands the appropriate attention.

If you’re wearing a long dress, a draping necklace works perfectly in line with the longer hemline. However, if you’ve opted for a shorter hemline then you should wear a necklace with a shorter strand. And if you really want to make your necklace stand out, wear an open neck or a solid, one-block colour.

Bracelets

Bracelets are another piece of jewellery that can be worn by themselves or stacked. For an everyday bracelet, choose a simple chain with a charm, but if you’re looking for something a bit more exciting then there are options. Stacked bangles can look great, but be wary not to wear too many or the jingle will announce your arrival in every room you enter. Mixing materials has now become a popular style, but limit it to one or two materials. At the other end of the scale, a wide cuff is great for making an impression.

Remember that lots of bracelets calls for short or rolled up sleeves so that they become a focal point of your ensemble!

Earrings

Small studs are great for everyday wear, and the choice is endless. From diamond studs to pearls and even just plain gold or silver options, studs are the perfect choice if you don’t want to have to change your earrings daily.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more exciting, then you might want to consider your face shape first. This is because different earrings can have a different effect on your face, bringing out both your best and worst features.

From chandelier to drop earrings, they can add something special to your outfit for the day. For example, a longer face shape would benefit from stud or short drop earrings for the illusion of a wider face. Round face shapes should go for longer, dangle earrings. If you do opt for eye-catching chandelier or large dangle earrings, avoid necklaces or brooches as you could risk overdoing it. This type of earring is perfect for injecting a bit of colour into your jewellery collection.

Other Jewellery Fashion & Style Tips To Consider

Aside from the ones mentioned above, there are also other fashion and style tips to consider when wearing pieces of jewellery. For example, if you want people’s gaze to be directed at a certain piece of jewellery of yours when dressing up for something special, then you need to find the focal point. This means making the focus on one body area that’s intended to catch other people’s attention. If you want to wear a bold necklace, you should use subtle earrings and rings to highlight the focal point. That way, the necklace will stand out and not diminish your overall appearance.

Moreover, while fashion trends can help you wear jewellery the right way, you shouldn’t do it at the expense of your own personality and taste. That said, it may be best to figure out your own style when you accessorise. Consequently, your personality will shine through using the jewellery pieces you choose to wear.
