Hat hair has been the downfall of many a great hairstyle. Although hats are a fabulous accessory for the winter months, what do you do when you take off your hat and unleash your mane? With the help of Leo Bancroft, here are 5 IDEAL tips to avoid hat hair this winter.
Dry Your Hair
Make sure your hair is completely dry before putting on your hat. If your hair is wet and dries under your hat, it will take on the shape of the hat – hello hat hair!
Choose your hat carefully
Synthetic fibers can actually create static so stick to cotton or will hats to ensure your hair will stay smooth.
Volumize
Starting off with va-va voom hair is key. Go out and buy some volumizing products and use them before drying your hair.
Go Boho
Boho waves is the ideal hat hairstyle. A simple beach wave can be created by scrunching damp hair in your hands whilst spraying a beach wave hair spray. If the waves are slightly disheveled by the hat that doesn’t matter – this will only add to the boho trend. Pop the spray in your handbag and spritz your waves once the hat is off to refresh and define curls.
French Twist
A classic French twist is also a perfect style to help avoid hat hair. Firstly, gather your hair into a low ponytail between the crown and nape and rather than tying it together twist the hair around twice. Tuck the ends of the hair into the twist and secure some hair grips. You can slip your hat off to reveal an intact twist or you can unravel it and add volume with your fingers for tousled waves.
High Bun
If you have long hair twist hair into a bun high at the crown of your head, secure with a Bungee Band as this will prevent kinks in the hair, and then put your hat on top. When you get inside, just shake out the bun to reveal volumous hair.
Bobby Pins
If your hair is short, pull the front section of your hair into four mini bumps, and secure with bobby pins before you put on your hat. Remove the pins once you’re inside, and flip head upside down, using your fingers to restyle.
