Simple Ways To Make Your Start-Up Sustainable In 2022

Thinking about starting a new venture in 2022? You’re not alone! More people are setting up on their own to double down on their passion or to support themselves financially. While the entrepreneurial spirit is a force to be reckoned with, sustainability remains a key focus for individuals and businesses alike.

The world is a different place since the onset of the pandemic. Changes in consumer behaviour and a sharp rise in the cost of living have made people more cautious with their purchases, so your offering needs to tick all the boxes, including sustainability.

Whatever you’re planning, don’t burden yourself with a debt to the planet. With the help of Adam Middleton, Marketing Manager for Packaging Supplies Ltd, a plastic-free and carbon-neutral packaging supplier and custom packaging service, delivering sustainable, plastic-free packaging materials, shipping boxes, and fully customised packaging, we’ve pulled together these pointers on starting an eco-friendly endeavour and make your start-up a super-sustainable success.

Consider Your Carbon Footprint

Every business and individual has a carbon footprint, but you might be wondering exactly what that carbon footprint is. The Nature Conservancy’s definition of a carbon footprint is “the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) generated by our actions”.

This encompasses all of the activities you’re likely to undertake when working on your business, so be sure to use climate-conscious suppliers or certified carbon neutral companies to reduce your total carbon emissions.

Use Sustainable Packaging

Whether it’s recycled, recyclable, compostable or biodegradable, using eco-friendly packaging is a great way to minimise waste and give your customers a sustainable experience.

Generally speaking, cardboard and paper-based packaging is much more widely used than non-renewable packaging materials made from plastic for good reason — it’s far better for the planet.

It’s satisfying to know your packaging isn’t contributing to landfill waste or plastic pollution, but that doesn’t mean your packaging needs to be boring. Some customisable packaging can be printed using water or even vegetable-based inks that’ll make your packaging pop without the use of toxic chemicals.

Design Products That Last

There’s nothing more frustrating than receiving a product that ceases to function after only a few uses, or even worse, never fulfils its intended purpose. If your products can’t stand the test of time, it won’t be long before customers cotton on and start returning your goods or making complaints.

You can stand out from the crowd with a high-quality offering by investing time and resources in the right place. Research and develop your product to find out what will put yours at the top of the pile.

Experimenting with different ingredients, materials or production processes will greatly enhance your customers’ experience, but it’s also a sustainable route since durable products and efficient services are much better for the environment.

Close The Loop

When your products reach the end of their life, what happens to them? If you’re selling edible or easily disposable products, you don’t have much to worry about (besides the packaging used to ship your merchandise). For anything else, it’s crucial to consider what your customers should do with your products when they’re ready for disposal.

Be sure to provide adequate advice for your customers on the most responsible way to dispose of your goods. This could be instructions on how to compost packaging materials at home or how to dismantle your product to recycle specific parts and put the rest in general waste if they’re non-recyclable. Customers will appreciate your forethought and it shows you really care about the planet.

Don’t Compromise Your Values

The most important aspect of starting an eco-friendly business is staying true to your mission. If you go back on your word, your company’s credibility may be marked indelibly. To avoid tripping yourself up, set realistic standards for your products and services and avoid greenwashing at all costs. Loyal customers won’t hold it against you if you falter in your journey. In this case, do what’s necessary to rectify the situation to win back the hearts and minds of your customer base.

The Bottom Line

If you’re thinking about starting something new — whether it’s a simple side-gig or a fully-fledged business — make sustainability a priority. By putting the planet first, you’ll send a powerful message to potential customers looking for eco-friendly products, winning their business in the process.

The Laid Back Guide To Postpartum Fitness Goals

0

Being pregnant is a unique and magical experience. However, along with the feeling of bliss that you feel, you may also be frustrated and challenged because of the changes that your body has to go through during pregnancy and even after giving birth. If you’re keen to keep fit and healthy after pregnancy and the birth of your baby, here’s how to get back in shape.

Embrace Your Postpartum Body

Becoming a mother changes you both inside and out. Unfortunately as reported by the Guardian, recent research by MotherCare revealed that ”80% of mothers in the UK said they had compared their post-birth bodies with unrealistic images”.

Luckily there has been a societal shift around the way we talk about postpartum bodies. We just need to look at Mothercare’s advertising campaign on Body Proud Mum’s that celebrates the post-birth body to appreciate the change. Remember, it takes your body time to recover, so be kind to yourself, first and foremost.

Walk Before You Can Run

A slow reintroduction to exercise is sensible, as your lower back and core may be weaker than they once were. That said, the NHS recommend that, if the birth was straightforward, it’s okay to ease yourself back into gentle exercise as soon as it feels comfortable.

This gentle exercise can include some simple stretches and plenty of walking. The great thing about walking is that it is not only an exercise, but it can also give you some much needed ‘me time’. What’s more, regular walks with the little one represent an early bonding activity with your baby. Cherish those moments!

If your childbirth was more complicated, consult with your midwife or GP about how best to approach a reintroduction to gentle exercise.

Gradually, Move Into Other Forms Of Exercise

For several months after childbirth, your joints and ligaments will be a little more fragile, so do take it easy when considering more committal exercise. But, when you feel ready, a little aerobic exercise will help you feel in control of your fitness again.

There are lots of postnatal exercise classes available in the community, and your health visitor, midwife or GP may be able to point you in the right direction of your nearest. Pilates and yoga are particularly good for new mums, and can be super relaxing, too!

Find Your Fitness Community

Exercising alongside other new mums can be both motivating and reassuring. Many fitness centres now offer specialised postpartum classes where instructors understand the unique challenges of post-birth exercise. These sessions often include modifications for different recovery stages and fitness levels.

Some women find that joining these groups provides accountability and structure during a time when establishing new routines can be challenging. The shared experience of rebuilding strength and fitness after pregnancy creates a supportive environment where you can exchange advice about effective post-pregnancy treatments and exercises that have helped others regain their core strength and overall fitness.

Remember that comparing your progress to others isn’t helpful – each body heals differently. Focus instead on the solidarity and motivation that comes from moving alongside others who understand your journey.

Listen To Your Fitness Signals

As you gradually increase your exercise intensity, becoming attuned to your body’s responses is crucial. The traditional ‘no pain, no gain’ mentality has no place in postpartum fitness. Instead, focus on how movements feel and adjust accordingly.

Some discomfort during the rebuilding of muscle strength is normal, but sharp pain, increased bleeding, or exhaustion that interferes with your ability to care for your baby are clear signals to scale back. Many specialists focus on combining post-pregnancy treatments with exercises specifically designed to safely rebuild core and pelvic floor strength – these foundational elements are essential before progressing to more intensive workouts.

Make Time To Rest

The changes you’ve gone through during pregnancy and childbirth can be exhausting, both physically and mentally. Above all else, make sure you’re taking care of your mental health – essential for both you and your baby – by resting well, opening up about how you’re feeling, and accepting offers of help from friends and family. Doing so will take a load off and allow you to listen to what your body is telling you…essential in those early weeks and months.

Eat Smartly

Gherkins dipped in Nutella? Check. Peanut butter on eggs? Yes, please. Chilli ice cream? Mine’s a double. Sure, those pregnancy cravings can take weird and unexpected turns but after the birth of your baby, it’s a good idea to transition back into healthy eating so you’re feeling sharp, sprightly and able for the little one.

Try to make healthy food choices with foods that provide sustained energy, like those high in complex carbohydrates (brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, sweet potato, squash) and protein. Don’t rely on caffeine and sweets for a quick pick-me-up as the crash will simply be postponed rather than prevented.

Ensure you have a good breakfast every morning and eat little and often throughout the day to keep energy levels up and consistent. If you’re breastfeeding, you’ll need at least 300 calories more than someone who is bottle feeding.

The Bottom Line

Getting back into shape following childbirth should be a gentle approach, focusing on both body and mind, so you have time to connect and bond with your new baby, and learn to love your postpartum body again.

Display Your Faith With These Home Decor Pieces

What comes to mind when you think of Christian home decor? Perhaps you imagine a crucifix or a cross displayed prominently in every room? Or maybe you think of angels, doves, and other religious symbols?

While these are all common ways to decorate a home with faith as its theme, there are many other options available, as well, some equally as proud and overt and some a little more subtle in their delivery.

Indeed, you can choose from wall art, tapestries, rugs, mugs, and so much more. No matter what your style or preference might be, you can find something that will suit your needs perfectly.

When it comes to choosing faith-positive decorations for your home, it is important to find pieces that are both beautiful and meaningful. Whether you are looking for a new addition to your existing collection or you are just starting out, these home decor pieces are sure to help you show your faith off in style. Let’s dive in.

Buy a Cross Or Crucifix

One of the most popular ways to decorate a home with Christian imagery is to purchase a cross or crucifix. These items are both beautiful and symbolic, and they are sure to make a statement in any room.

The Catholic cross has various meanings. Crosses and crucifixes remind us of the sacrifices made for us by Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, throughout his earthly life, which was full of grandeur and sorrow.

Just remember that you’re buying something profound and precious to you when you buy a crucifix. And although you perhaps shouldn’t buy one covered in glitter or rendered in a fluorescent or gaudy shade, the best thing is that such symbols come in a variety of styles so you can find the perfect one for your home.

A cross is the most strong and powerful symbol in the world for Christians, and if you don’t already own one, it might be a good idea to buy a cross or crucifix for your home.

Hang-Up Some Scripture Wall Art

Scripture wall art is another popular way to decorate your home with Christian imagery. These pieces are beautiful and inspirational, and they can add a touch of elegance to any room. There are a variety of different styles and designs to choose from – from plain designs that simply display a verse all the way to artistic, even abstract interpretations of key quotes – so you can find the perfect piece for your home.

Whether you are looking for something traditional or contemporary, there is sure to be something that meets your needs. In addition, this can also be your small DIY home project. You will need some poster boards, scissors, a pencil, and an outline or picture of the scripture you want to use. Trace the outline on the poster board and then cut it out. You can then hang it up with some tape or thumbtacks.

Print Scripture Verses on Mugs

Your coffee mug is likely to be one of the first things you see in the morning, so why not put an inspiring verse of scripture on it as well?

Printing verses on mugs is a great way to start your day off with a positive message. In addition, this is a great way to share your faith with others. When they see the verse on your mug, they will be sure to ask about it, opening up an avenue for you to preach or expound the gospel.

This is a great opportunity to share your faith with them and to discuss the importance of scripture in your life. A few ideas for a short snippet of mug-based scripture include:

  • For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11
  • God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! – 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • The words of the Lord are flawless. – Psalm 12:6
  • He is not here, he is risen! – Matthew 28:6 (perhaps our favourite for a morning mug!)

Make a Prayer Board

A prayer board is a useful tool for displaying prayers and intentions and maintaining a constant conversation with God throughout the day. Because of its small size, it may be used to display prayer requests and scripture verses without taking up valuable wall space in the house. If the board is not on permanent display, its mobility enables for easy storage beneath a bed or under furniture.

As you pray through requests and concentrate on scripture with the attention it deserves, this easy resource will become a cornerstone in your Bible study and prayer time. A prayer board is a cute way to keep track of the people you need to pray for and the concerns of the day that need a moment’s observance.

Hang Up a Faith-Inspired Painting

Faith-inspired paintings can be a powerful way to bring your faith into the world. The Bible says, “faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:26), which is both a neat visual play on words, and an instruction for you to consider a faith inspired painting, just as the religious temples of many religions use art, sculpture and architecture to declare their devotion.

You may not always have time for long prayer sessions or bible study but you can still express your faith by decorating with art. Christian artists create many types of pieces that show their own personal relationship with God and there are plenty of options for those who want to buy ready-made artwork too. Faith-inspired paintings are a wonderful way to add some colour and beauty to any room of your house, bringing a little gravitas to the domestic space in the process.

Buy Christian Figurines

One way to show your devotion to the Lord is by decorating your house with figurines that represent Jesus, Mary, and various saints. Figurines are a popular item because they can be found anywhere, from small shops devoted to Catholicism all the way to high street stores.

We think in cases of Christan figurines, the more kitsch the better, though more elegant options are available if you’re keen on the subtler side of things. Popular figurines for domestic displays include a gilded Madonna and child statue, a Fontanini sleeping St. Joseph figure, and even a bronze standing Pieta holy water font, in miniature, of course.

Decorate with Some Candles

Candles have been used throughout history for many different purposes, including as a form of religious worship as well as an observation of a certain celebration or to symbolise light in the next life, when lit in times of death.

For Christians, candles represent the light of God and can be used as a way to bring attention to a specific item or area in a room. For example, if you decide to buy the figurines we discussed in the previous point, you could place a candle on a shelf near them to create a focal point.

Or, if you have a prayer board, you could light a candle each time you pray and say a quick prayer for the individual or family whose name is on the board. There are endless possibilities for how candles can be used to decorate your home and express your faith.

The Bottom Line (Revelation 22)

There are many different ways to decorate your home and express your faith. These are just a few ideas to help get you started. With a little creativity, you can come up with your own ideas that will perfectly reflect your personal relationship with God. So go ahead and start decorating – let your faith shine through!

Hotel Dining: Shendish Manor Hotel & Golf Course, Hertfordshire

0

If the pace and relentlessness of the capital’s rat race is wearing you down and you’re looking for a country house experience just outside of London, then Shendish Manor and Golf Course in Hertfordshire might be just the escape you need.

Not satisfied with offering 160 acres of splendid, sprawling parkland and gardens, Shendish Manor Hotel in Hertfordshire boasts the Orangery restaurant, where fine dining and a relaxed atmosphere are always the order of the day. And then there’s the golf course, one of the finest within close proximity of Central London, with its Par 70, 18 hole course set with a mix of hazards through both parkland and woodland copses.

Oh, and the best part? Shendish Manor is accessible in a little over half an hour, via a direct train from Euston. Result!

Anyway, we’ve no time for golf today. Instead, let’s explore this hotel’s dining options further.

A GORGEOUS SETTING

Guests will appreciate a wealth of natural light as they set eyes on Shendish Manor’s restaurant, The Orangery, which, as you’ve probably guessed, is located in an orangery.

While the inside decor of the restaurant is of a certain period, the terrace, accessed by sliding glass doors, is just lovely. It opens up to views of the hotel’s gorgeous grounds, with a well-manicured lawn and Dutch Garden, coiffured hedges and towering trees. Enjoying a long languid lunch on the terrace is something you’ll certainly want to do in the summer months here; you’ll know you’ve left the cut and thrust of London, make no mistake.

THE ORANGERY RESTAURANT’S DINING ROOM

Once you’re seated on the terrace or in the bright dining room, it’s time to sample the well put-together menu of confident, classical cookery. The Orangery restaurant uses locally sourced, seasonal ingredients where possible, with nearby Aylesbury providing the duck for an enjoyable main course, paired with blackberries we can only assume were foraged from the surrounding hedgerows.

Starters seem to be a highlight. Here you’ll find a trio of scallops pan-seared, promising to boast that all-important caramelised crust and yielding flesh. When given the perfect support from apple sauce and parma ham, you might even be tempted to order a second round!

Vegetarian options focus heavily on the cheese, with halloumi and Mediterranean vegetables a delicious if somewhat predictable main, and a starter of goat’s cheese bonbon delivering on its brief. That said, diners with special dietary requirements need not worry as the restaurant caters to special diets upon request.

Desserts stick to the tried and tested classics, but they’re classics for a reason, right? Think sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream or warm chocolate browning with a scoop of something cold and sweet. With prices decidedly un-London, you can’t argue with the menu offering here.

Interestingly, if you’d like to have the space to yourself, you can always arrange for private dining. At the Shendish Manor, private dining experiences can be arranged for as many as 320 people. The hotel’s beautiful banqueting suites can be adorned to suit your taste, the occasion or the theme of your event.

COCKTAILS AT THE ORANGERY BAR

With a decent selection of wine and plenty of beers on tap, the Orangery Bar serves the restaurant capably. It can be the perfect prelude to a delicious dining experience or the ideal post-meal debrief – the choice is yours.

Cocktails are freshly shaken and thoughtfully composed. A couple of those enjoyed out on the terrace overlooking the hotel’s gorgeous surrounds is enough to make anyone forget about London for an evening.

ONE OF THE MOST AFFORDABLE AFTERNOON TEAS CLOSE TO LONDON

While it’s of course hard to beat London’s afternoon tea culture (it’s one of the best in the world, after all) The Shendish Manor afternoon tea promises a comparable experience. Moreover, it’s a very much affordable one, at just £18.95 for a selection of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve, all before a round of cakes and desserts. Those sweet treats include macaroons, as well as traditional afternoon tea classics like red velvet cake and mini Battenburg log. Heaven!

To top it all off, guests have the option of taking their experience to the next level by adding free-flow fizz for an extra £20. You won’t find prices like that in the capital, and it’s well worth the journey for such affordability and scenery.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Of course, you’ll find more premium fine dining options in London proper, but as an escape from the relentless pace of the capital city, Shendish Manor offers a capable, confident menu in a bright, airy dining room. The views aren’t half bad either.

Making Business Travel Work For You In 2022: Key Short Term Changes To Expect

2020 saw the biggest drop in business travel spending for decades, with a 61% fall in spending worldwide

Whilst the reasons for that dramatic decrease are obvious, the future of business travel is less certain. As the Global Business Travel Association reported in November of last year, ‘’Business travel recovery in 2021 proceeded at a slower, more cautionary pace than expected’’.

That said, the GBTA do make some more positive predictions moving forward; they envisage the global business travel industry will make a full recovery by 2024, and be worth a staggering $1.4 trillion by the end of that year.

We should say that such a prediction relies on a fair amount of guesswork, but if you’re looking for some more short term, assured prognoses on the world of business travel, then you’ve come to the right place. To make business travel work for you in 2022, here are some key short term changes to expect.

THE BRAVE NEW WORLD OF THE CORPORATE NOMAD

#WFH… Working from home? Working from holiday, more like!

We’ve all heard of the digital nomad, of ‘bleisure’ and of the staycation. Well, expect to see the next decade of business travel defined by a fusing of those three ideas; all rise, the ‘corporate nomad’.

With frequent, fuel guzzling trips in the name of business travel increasingly frowned upon, and with remote working on an irrepressible rise, professionals across a range of industries are forgoing business travel per se in favour of a ‘workcation’. Expect to see the idea of the ‘corporate nomad’ entering the popular vernacular soon.

Post-pandemic, professionals will increasingly travel to relocate for an extended stay and a prolonged bout of business with foreign partners, as their jobs are no longer tied to a physical location.

Accordingly, it’s likely that AirBnb and other accommodation providers will adapt to suit this demand, offering work/holiday hybrids to cater for the digital and corporate nomad’s globetrotting ways. All of this leads to greater opportunity for the business traveller for exploration and more meaningful working collaborations, both of which sound ideal to us!

TRAVEL LIGHTER THAN EVER

An increasingly diverse set of standard hotel provisions and the rise in amenities and convenience in even the most remote locations has led to business travel requiring a lighter load than ever before.

That’s very welcome news, as packing your luggage for a business trip can be a tricky task, particularly as long-haul business travel is becoming increasingly common. Indeed, what you pack for a one-night stay in London in January is going to be very different to what you should be packing for an extended stay in a serviced apartment in Singapore, but a running theme of luggage trends in 2022 is going to be an increased emphasis on travelling light.

Many business travellers are now opting to buy specialist carry-on luggage to suit their needs, choosing to forgo the necessity of checking-in bigger bags entirely. With the most important items now technological, it looks like laptops, portable chargers, mobile phones and other items key to facilitating easy communication with clients are all taking precedence over a stack of expensive suits and several changes of smart shoes.

Instead, business travellers are choosing a small, travel friendly capsule wardrobe. With just one jacket, one skirt, one pair of trousers, a dress, three tops and a couple pairs of shoes, you can create a whole host of different outfit combinations. Makes sense, don’t you think?

MORE SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS TRAVEL

After the world of business travel experienced a prolonged period of downtime, the whole industry has been given a unique opportunity to re-evaluate just how they do things. Top of the to-do list will be the question of how to re-emerge from this crisis in a nimble and dexterous way, and ultimately, how to approach the new normal of business travel as sustainably as possible.

We all know that business travel’s environmental credentials have a pretty terrible reputation, but the industry is keen to change all that in 2022, and the good news is that for business travellers like you, this will likely spell discounts and bonuses for those keen to do things in a greener way.

Expect smarter, more sustainable business travel in the future because of this. Frequent Flyer rewards are out, Infrequent Flyer loyalty offers look certain to be in. Rather than fewer flights meaning more time spent in the domestic office, it might just mean more of those extended workations we mentioned.

Simple, everyday hacks to the way you conduct your business travelling can help, too. Always carry digital travel documents rather than you having to print copies, behave responsibly in hotels (particularly in terms of bedding and towel reuse), use car-sharing apps and public transport when at your destination, and reduce your plastic waste as you traverse the world. Every little helps!

THE RETURN OF FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS

The novelty of using Zoom for meetings has well and truly worn off. As such, and certainly at the more executive levels of a company, face-to-face meetings and interactions are likely to take on even greater significance as 2022 progresses.

For business travellers keen to go that extra mile (quite literally), and actually show up for a meeting, project, collaboration or interview in person, the rewards will be rich.

Let’s face it; sometimes, it’s impossible to gain that sense of trust or make that lasting first impression from behind a buffering internet connection. Should you be keen to make a positive impression on a prospective client or collaborator, it might well be worth making the journey!

That shouldn’t mean you’re abandoning those green credentials that you’ve been cultivating throughout this article. Instead, prioritise greener modes of business travel transport, such as cross-continental trains and coaches, and electric cars. Go further, and endeavour to offset your carbon footprint should you need to use a plane.

Arriving at a meeting, face-to-face but environmentally friendly… What better impact could you make than that?

Mighty Hoopla Pop Music Festival

The Mighty Hoopla Pop Music Festival in London, in gorgeous Brockwell park, is a celebration of frivolity, fashion and, of course, fantastic tunes, with the music here taking on a decidedly poppy bent.

Taking place over the first weekend of June, just as festival season really kicks into gear, this is one glam event, with the 25’000 or so attendees dressed to the nines in creative expressions of the self you wouldn’t perhaps see at some of the summer’s larger events.

With great food stalls galore, an LGBTQ+ heavy lineup, and a state-of-the-art main stage sound system, and a really inclusive vibe, this is one of our favourite day festivals in the capital. See you under the Big Wheel?

It’s part of the All Points East Festival, which is also on our list!

Parklife

The Parklife Festival is one of the UK’s most popular and well-known weekend music festivals, which takes place in Manchester’s Heaton Park and offers a diverse and cutting-edge program of music. The weekender, which is curated by a number of the UK’s best-known clubbing brands, has cemented its status as at the very front of the country’s hip hop and dance music scene.

So, why would we term such a popular festival ‘underrated’? Well, the line-up for the past few years has been so consistently phenomenal that we’re surprised Parklife isn’t considered the UK’s very best (after Glasto, of course) festival.

When? 11th and 12th September

Acts we’re looking forward to at this year’s festival include: Tyler, the Creator, Megan Thee Stallion, Bicep

All Points East

Another huge British festival that isn’t exactly ‘underrated’, but certainly isn’t as highly regarded as it deserves, is All Points East.

All Points East has established itself as a mainstay of Victoria Park in East London after an incredible debut in 2018, and we’re very much here for this year’s lineup.

The six-day event is made up of two festival weekends incorporating six headliners, all of which runs alongside a host of community events taking place in the area, all with free entry (though the main festival isn’t, it should be noted) known as “In the Neighbourhood”.

For a festival which allows you to hop off the tube – Bow Road, if you’re asking – and straight into the action, All Points East is hard to beat!

When? Friday 19th August to Sunday 28th August

Acts we’re looking forward to at this year’s festival include: Nick Cave, Anna Calvi, Tinariwen (all on the final Sunday!).

Southbound Festival

This is Southbound, a new music festival dedicated to the south of London, held in that infamous place we’ve all ended up in after one too many, Morden. This will be one of the highlights of the summer, bringing together all of the UK’s finest dance music in one massive six-arena event, from live acts on a large outdoor stage to DJs and MCs in huge big top tents. We can’t wait!

When? 5th September

Acts we’re looking forward to at this year’s festival include: Grooverider, Saffron Stone, The Manor

Boundary Brighton

The debut of Border Brighton, a new major dance music event for the city, first took place in Stanmer Park in September of 2017, and since then has become Brighton’s biggest celebration of electronic music.

Each September, the festival features a diverse lineup of house and bass music within Brighton’s Stanmer Park, with an atmosphere that matches Brighton’s lust for life and diverse spirit. This year promises to be the most spectacular iteration of the event yet!

When? 24th September

Acts we’re looking forward to at this year’s festival include: We’re still going to have to wait a while to decide! Last year’s lineup wasn’t announced until a month before the event.

How To Save Money On Your Wellness Routine

Firstly, let’s address that elephant in the room before we begin. Nope, you’re not seeing things due to your wellbeing products (they don’t do that). But rather, the elephant in the room that we’re addressing is a question; what exactly is a wellness routine?

Well, a routine that focuses on wellbeing is a daily schedule that combines wholesome products, healthy habits, and a range of self-care activities, all deliberately done and observed in the name of nurturing a calmer, more zen-like lifestyle.

The problem for many is that observing a wellness routine requires time and money. Healthy, organic food swaps don’t come cheap, supplements might feel (and sometimes are) superfluous and steep, and fitting in a fitness regime can be tough during a busy week.

But wellness should be for everybody. And with that in mind, here’s how to save money on your wellness routine.

SAVING MONEY ON WELLNESS PRODUCTS

People invest in all sorts of products to aid their quality of life and improve their physical and mental wellbeing these days.

These range from probiotic supplements, which have seen growing evidence of having a marked effect on wellness, all the way to sleep aids that are only available over-the-counter.

Among the products that many people turn to in order to achieve these goals is CBD, and there are many different products that you can choose from within the ever-growing market.

Saving Money On Supplements

There are several things you can do to make sure that the pricing of supplements is affordable without compromising when it comes to suitability and quality.

Firstly, you should compare costs across a wide range of providers. There are several dedicated platforms that help you do this, including PriceRunner, PriceSpy and PricePlow. You should also consider signing up for alerts on price drops from both the supplement company you’re considering and those price comparison websites we mentioned.

Establishing Quality

In terms of establishing the quality of the product you’re buying, you can search online for accompanying lab reports, of which any reputable company should provide. A trustworthy, responsible brand tends to be more transparent and posts these lab reports on their site. Always check for Certificates of Analysis (COA) or third-party lab reports. These documents confirm the potency and purity of products.

It should be noted that studies into the efficacy of supplements, and specifically, CBD, is still ongoing, with often inconclusive and inconsistent findings, and aren’t designed or intended to diagnose or treat any issues.

EATING WELL WITH WELLNESS IN MIND FOR LESS

Hmmm, bit of a confusing title that one. Maybe our morning turmeric shot hasn’t kicked in yet and we’re feeling a little cloudy.

Instead of food fashions and fads, it’s important to focus on a well-rounded, primarily home-cooked diet full of plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, beans and pulses, protein, and a few treats thrown in for good measure. Your pleasure matters, too, of course.

Eating a balanced diet can do wonders not only for your physical health, but your wellbeing, too. According to the Mind UK, ‘’evidence suggests that as well as affecting our physical health, what we eat may also affect the way we feel’’.

Saving Money On Your Food Shop

But how to save money on a well-rounded diet, we hear you ask? Well, firstly, consider bulk buying fresh and frozen vegetables and meat – cheaper than single items – and batch booking your favourite meals, helping you keep your diet documented and organised, meaning you’ll save time as well as money.

Speaking of great kitchen-organisation, the British food activist Jack Monroe recently shared their ‘stocktake’ method of reviewing your store-cupboard, fridge and freezer prior to heading to the supermarket, which helps keep a weekly shop under £20. Do check it out.

If you’re keen to be super smart with your savings, then you should check out the supermarket price comparison website Trolley. Here, you can search for products or brands and find the lowest price in your area. Useful!

TIME IS MONEY

Finding the time to observe a regular routine of wellness can be as trying as finding the money for it. And as Benjamin Franklin suggested, time is money, so it’s vital you find that balance.

Taking the time to look after yourself doesn’t necessarily mean taking several weeks off work for an expensive holiday (although that would certainly work wonders for most!). Instead, taking just a few minutes each day to meditate, regroup, relax or self-pamper, can do plenty of good for your state of mind. Many of the world’s most popular meditation apps offer freemium versions that won’t cost you a dime or more than 10 minutes each day to make the most of.

Finding the time to exercise, another key component of strong mental health, shouldn’t be a barrier to getting out there and doing it, either. Check out these 10 IDEAL time hacks if you’re ‘too busy’ to exercise for more on that.

How To Use Apps To Manage Your Money While Travelling

Managing your money while travelling can be a challenge, but with the right apps, it doesn’t have to be. There are a variety of apps available that allow you to manage your money without having to go to the bank. Here are some ways to use them.

USE A MONEY TRANSFER APP

When you’re traveling, it can be difficult to get your hands on cash. This is especially true if you’re in a foreign country. A money transfer app can help you solve this problem. These apps allow you to send and receive money from anywhere in the world.

They also let you pay bills and shop online without having to worry about exchanging currency. You can find the best money transfer app for you online and download it for free. This is a great option if you need to send money to someone in a hurry.

Be sure to be extra scrupulous when sending money across borders or continents, taking extra time to look for the the best exchange rate when sending money, for example, from UK to India or the US to Thailand, as rates can vary hugely in such cases.

When you’re using a money transfer app, be sure to keep your login information and password safe. It’s also a good idea to set up a pin to protect your account. By doing this, you can rest easy knowing that your money is safe.

Some of the money transfer apps include: Sortter, Wise, Ofx, World Remit

TRY A BUDGETING APP

If you’re looking to keep your spending in check while traveling, a budgeting app can be a great tool. These apps allow you to track your expenses and create a budget for your trip. This can help you stay on track financially and avoid overspending. There are a variety of budgeting apps available, so be sure to choose one that fits your needs.

Some apps allow you to create a custom budget, while others provide preset budgets for different types of trips. You can find budgeting apps online or in the app store. Be sure to read the reviews before you download one, as not all of them are created equal. Also, be sure to have your bank information handy, so you can link your account to the app. This will make tracking your expenses even easier.

Some of the best budgeting apps include: Tripcoin, Mint, PocketGuard, Wally

ATM LOCATOR APPS CAN SAVE YOU TIME

If you’re looking for an easy way to find ATMs while traveling, an ATM locator app can be a lifesaver. These apps allow you to find the nearest ATM no matter where you are in the world. They also provide information on the type of ATM it is (cash only, Visa, etc.), so you can be sure to have the right type of card with you. Most ATM locator apps are free to download and use.

Simply enter your location and the app will show you a map of all the nearby ATMs. You can also filter the results by banks or type of ATM. This is a great option if you need to get cash out while on vacation. Many people prefer to use ATM locator apps instead of Google Maps because they provide more information on the actual nature of the ATM, rather than just offering its location.

Some of the best ATM locator apps include: Google Maps, Cash Machine Finder, LINK Cash Locator

USE A CURRENCY CONVERTER APP

If you’re traveling to a foreign country, it’s a good idea to download a currency converter app. These apps allow you to see the current exchange rate for different currencies. This can come in handy when you’re trying to figure out how much money you need to spend. Most currency converter apps are free to download and use. All you need to do is enter the amount of money and the currency you want to convert.

The app will then show you the equivalent amount in all the other supported currencies. This is a great way to budget your trip and make sure you’re not overspending. Currency converter apps can also be helpful when you’re trying to figure out how much money to exchange. Simply enter the amount of money you want to convert and the currency you’re converting from, and the app will tell you how much money you need to exchange.

Some of the best currency converter apps include: XE Currency Exchange, All Currency Converter, Currency

5 IDEAL TIPS FOR STORING MEAT SAFELY

0

This second week of March, it’s Food Waste Action Week and National Butchers Week, and today, we’re considering food storage as a way of avoiding food waste.

Should you have got a little over excited over two such major celebrations occuring simultaneously and splashed out big at the butchers, you’re probably wondering how best to store it all correctly. Well, we’re here to help. We’ve teamed up with the masters of meat over at Ginger Pig to give you our 5 IDEAL tips for storing meat safely.

CIRCULATE

With the exception of bacon, meat needs circulating air in the fridge so as not to spoil, so it’s best to remove meat from its packaging once you get it home. Think about how butchers display meat in their counters; this is how it keeps best. Putting your joint of meat on a wire rack allows for best circulation; you could even try your hand at dry aging some beef for a few days in this way, bringing out a deep, complex flavour in the meat. Lovely stuff.

PRIME POSITION

If you’ve got plenty of space in the fridge, your meat will be fine on a plate or rack on the bottom shelf, not touching any other foods (store different meats separately, of course). Not only does this positioning reduce the risk of cross-contamination, but it’s the coldest part too. If you’re tight on space (which isn’t advisable – see below) place your meat on top of some kitchen paper in a clean, sealed, plastic container.

TEMPERATURE & TIMING

Make sure your fridge is running between 1-4°C. Allowing meat to be in the ‘danger zone’ of temperature (that’s between roughly 5 and 63°C, guys) is going to put your stomach in the danger zone, too.

In terms of how long you can store your meat before it’s not safe to eat, of course a little discretion is advised. In general, though…

  • Sausages, mince, diced meat, chicken pieces, beef and pork ribs keep for approximately 2 days.
  • Whole chicken, steaks, roasts (boned and rolled) approximately for 2-3 days.
  • Roasts (bone in) for 2-3 days.
  • Roasts (bone out) for 3-4 days
  • Cured meats (ready to eat) for up to a week.
  • Bacon (raw) for 5 days

OVERFILL AT YOUR PERIL

Its advisable for a couple of reasons not to overfill your fridge. Firstly, a fridge which is full to bursting and blocking air vents won’t maintain the correct temperature; a fluctuating atmosphere (exacerbated by constantly opening and closing the door) will do your meat’s condition no favours at all. Secondly, the risk of cross-contamination is greatly enhanced if items are touching.

FREEZING

Instead of overfilling your fridge, consider freezing products you’ve just purchased; retaining their freshness if done properly. Freeze before the meat’s use-by date, make sure it’s properly wrapped (preferably with foil and plastic wrap) to avoid freezer burn, and make sure you thaw thoroughly in the fridge before eating. Never refreeze meat which you’ve previously frozen and defrosted. Happy eating!

Feeling Charitable: How To Make A Difference

If there is one thing many people learned from the pandemic, it was the importance of appreciating the simple things in life. The enforced time spent at home led many people to rethink their priorities and encouraged communities to come together and help each other. Now the restrictions have lifted and life has started to get back to normal, you may be keen to hang onto some of the positive aspects of life in lockdown. Right now, the world needs as much positivity as it can get, so if you are keen to make a difference, pursuing your altruistic tendencies is a truly admirable thing to do.

The interesting thing about taking the time to do good things is the impact it has on your thinking. Doing good in the world is not just beneficial to the people you help; you will also make significant personal gains from your charitable efforts. Researchers report a phenomenon known as the ‘helpers’ high,’ which kicks in when you do something for the benefit of others. So, whether you volunteer your time or donate money, your good deeds will give your wellbeing a boost as well as help a good cause.

While it’s clear giving is good, you may be wondering how you can turn your desire to help into action. If you are in need of inspiration to help you start to make a difference, you should find these tips give you plenty of ideas:

Make a Difference Everyday

You don’t need to launch your own charitable foundation to make a difference in the lives of others. Starting small and doing good every day is an excellent way to get started. Whether you volunteer to get shopping for an elderly neighbour or brighten up your local area with some strategic yarn bombing, these acts all have a positive impact. If you are planning to decorate your neighbourhood with wool, just be sure you have permission so that your crocheted creations don’t turn you into a criminal!

Even simple acts such as decluttering your home and donating the items you no longer use to a charity shop can make a big difference. The power of small, simple acts of giving is often underestimated, but the cumulative impact you are making is significant when done regularly.

Tim Wells from Garage Transformed gives a quick rundown of some popular items that are suitable for donation:

  • Clothes: Gently used clothing is always welcome. This includes shoes, belts, and bags too.
  • Books and Textbooks: If you’ve got books or textbooks collecting dust, they could find a new home with someone else. Fiction, non-fiction, kids’ books, or educational materials make great donations.
  • Baby Items and Toys: Clean and safe baby gear and toys can be a real lifesaver for families in need. Cribs, strollers, car seats, and toys are all great to donate. Just double-check that they meet safety guidelines before passing them on.
  • Large Items: If you have furniture, appliances, or electronics that are still in working order, they can be donated, too. This includes items like pianos, mattresses, and TVs. Keep in mind that some organizations might have size restrictions, so check with them beforehand.

Cars and Boats: If you have an old car or boat taking up space, consider donating it to a charity that accepts vehicle donations. It’s important to check the charity’s guidelines and any tax implications for donating a vehicle.

Focus on Your Community

One of the easiest ways to make a big difference in the lives of others is to focus on your local community. Starting your charitable efforts close to home makes it much simpler for you to get started. Having the advantage of local knowledge lets you make the most significant positive changes as you already know which areas require attention.

If there is already a community action group where you live, it may be worth joining to ensure you don’t step on anyone’s toes or duplicate their efforts. If not, now could be the perfect opportunity to create one and to begin bringing the community together.

You could use the community group as a vehicle to raise money for local charities or to pressure your local council into making changes to the area for the benefit of the community. If your purpose is to raise funds for local good causes, your efforts are likely to be successful, as people like to support projects that are meaningful to them and will positively impact their daily lives. You could raise money by choosing to design your own personalised calendar featuring images of the local area and then selling them on with the profits going to a local charity. Whether you are trying to raise money for new play equipment for the local park or your local football team needs sponsors, there are many excellent ways to use the money you raise.

Volunteer Your Time

If you are keen to take a more hands-on approach and engage directly with the people you are helping, volunteering your time is a great way to get involved with a good cause.

There are many different opportunities to volunteer, so you should have plenty of options to choose from. But, before you go ahead and sign up for a range of volunteering opportunities, it is crucial to check you have the spare time available to commit.

Knowing precisely what you are signing up for is essential to ensure that you can fulfil the level of commitment required while also juggling all your other responsibilities. Trying to take on too many volunteer opportunities can mean you spread yourself too thin and put unnecessary pressure on yourself. Working out how much you are happy to help with and how much spare time you can realistically spare will ensure that you get the balance right.

There are many different ways that you can volunteer without making it a full-time unpaid job. You could choose to give a few hours a week of your time by volunteering at a youth group or helping out at a food bank. Alternatively, you could take a more formal volunteer position by covering a shift at a charity shop or a local soup kitchen.

Use Your Specialist Skills

Do you have a specialist skill or qualification that not many people have? If so, your skills could be in demand in the charity sector. People with many different skills put them to use to help good causes in their free time.

If you are happy to do your job for free in your spare time to help others, then this could be the ideal way for you to make a difference. This idea is something that many people have trialled in the past and have found it a great way to give back. From hairdressers providing free washes and cuts to the homeless to vets volunteering at animal shelters, there are plenty of opportunities to get stuck in and help people out.

Once you start volunteering your time, you may be surprised by how in-demand your skills are and what a big difference they can make to the lives of others.

ADULTING 101: PROACTIVE WAYS TO TACKLE ADULT LIFE

Reaching a particular number of years of enduring existence on this planet might make you an adult on your birth certificate, but in attitude, things can get a little more opaque. We don’t all ‘grow up’ in the same way, and life lessons are learned at a different pace.

Adulthood is tough. You are expected to be capable of balancing your career, personal life, physical and mental health while also managing to get enough sleep – and that’s just for starters. However, while various factors contribute to one’s maturity, there are some practical, proactive ways that you can tackle life head one as an adult. Let’s explore.

LEARN THE BASICS OF FINANCE

Money management is one of the most important adulting skills, as it can help you secure a better financial future. You can start by learning the basics of finance from online courses like those on Investopedia, or if you want to learn about personal finance in a more engaging way, then you can always check out podcasts on investing like Marketplace Money and Freakonomics Radio.

It’s also a sensible, responsible approach to keep a close eye on your daily, weekly and monthly outgoings, via a simple excel spreadsheet or more something in-depth, by using financial software apps. Some of the best include You Need A Budget, Moneydance, and AceMoney.

Developing healthy financial habits is one of the most important life skills any adult can learn.

TAKE YOUR HEALTH SERIOUSLY

When you were a child, your parents took care of your medical needs by taking you to the doctors and making sure that you got regular checkups. As an adult, however, it is your responsibility to take care of your body and health.

Make sure that you schedule regular medical checkups, including dental checkups, annual physical examinations and even a sexual health test, as well as eye checkups, blood tests, cholesterol tests, and more. This will help you catch any potential health issues early enough to enable you to take necessary action before they become a more serious problem. Prevention is better than cure, after all.

DON’T BE TOO PROUD TO ASK FOR HELP

One of the key elements of adulthood is being able to accept and acknowledge your weaknesses. And in order to be able to do that, you have to learn how to ask for help when you need it. Doing so doesn’t mean that you are weak or incapable; it just means that you are a person who is brave enough to admit that you can’t do everything alone.

In fact, asking for help can be a sign of strength, and helps you build resilience and fortitude over time. Stepping out of your comfort zone, and opening yourself up to different insights and viewpoints can do wonders for your outlook.

TREAT SLEEP WITH THE RESPECT IT DESERVES

The value of a good night’s rest cannot be emphasised enough. So, we’ll emphasise it again, for those nodding off at the back; sleep is essential in reducing stress and approaching adult life with the clarity of thought that it demands.

This is because it is the time for your body to regulate cortisol (the stress hormone) levels. As if by magic, you will be biologically less stressed when you have enjoyed a regular run of proper, restful sleep. You’ll also notice better levels of concentration, focus and foresight, all of which are essential for tackling the adult world. Most adults need 7-9 hours each night, which is the ideal range you should aim for.

PRACTICE SELF-COMPASSION

Being an adult means being able to separate yourself from your emotions so that you can make rational decisions. Although we live in a world that values rational thinking, there is no denying the fact that emotions play an important role in our lives.

The key to managing them is self-compassion. When we struggle with putting our emotions into perspective and dealing with difficult situations, we often become defensive and critical towards ourselves. Self-compassion helps us put it all in perspective and deal with our problems in a healthy way.

WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS AND TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

When you were younger, your parents and teachers helped you set goals for yourself and motivated you to achieve them. Now that you are an adult, however, it is your responsibility to set goals for yourself and find ways to achieve them. One way to do this is by writing down your goals in a journal or planner and tracking your progress by noting what you have achieved each day or each week. It will keep you motivated, accountable, and focused on achieving your goals, which is what it’s all about, right?

THE BOTTOM LINE

While there is no one single definition of adulthood, there are many universal life lessons that every person must learn to become a real adult. These lessons include learning to ask for help, managing your finances, practicing self-compassion, controlling your health, and tracking your life goals. So, are you ready to tackle the responsibilities of an adult head on?

EXPRESS YOURSELF: HOW YOUR FASHION CHOICES & IMAGE CAN REPRESENT YOUR PERSONALITY

The way we dress is thought to represent not only our individual personality, aspirations, values, and our culture, but the state of society collectively, too.

Although style is often fluid, progressive and ever-changing, our fashion choices may hint at certain personality traits and where the country (and even world) is headed. Indeed, in times of struggle and turbulence, analysts of trends have observed that clothes become more practical, durable and less frivolous.

But what do our fashion choices and the image we cultivate say about our personality? Let’s explore.

STYLE ESSENCE VS STYLE EXPRESSION

Style essence, unlike style expression, is about your core self. It’s what helps bring out your own unique personality and how this relates to who you are in the world. Style expression, on the other hand, is about how you dress which may be influenced by other factors such as the state of society and a rejection of conventional beauty standards. Only when the two are combined can a sense of rounded, fully-formed image cultivation occur.

Our style essence can therefore be expressed through how we dress; however, it may not always be truly ‘authentic’ – but that’s okay! Some may choose to channel clothing choices from the past, via a vintage style, whilst others may look forward to the future, going for a cutting edge aesthetic with a sense of optimism at its core. Others may zero in on individuality, opting for a personalised adult hoodie, self-printed T-shirt, sewn-on patches or even a whole home knitted sweatshirt.

Indeed, style is something that evolves with us throughout our lifetime, reflecting the ebbs and flows of the times.

NOT ONLY OUR CLOTHES

Our unique personal style isn’t only about our clothes. There are so many ways we can express our personality through the way we customise our look, too. Expression can be via gel nail polish, certain makeup styles, or even how we style our hair. Here are a few examples of self-expression through mediums other than clothing:

Make-up

Make-up can be used both for functional and expressive purposes. Often, it is simply used to cover imperfections and can often help to boost confidence, enabling people to feel as much like their idealised, true selves as possible. However, there is a lot more to makeup can do than this – in fact, it can be an art form.

Experimenting with different makeup styles can be fun and adventurous, whether that be through bold cut crease eyeshadow looks, or through a softer more romantic look. Makeup is flexible, helping you change your entire face for just an evening, if you so desire, and that’s what’s so great about it. Currently, we are seeing a comeback of thin Y2K eyebrows, which is a huge step away from the Glossier ‘Boy Brow’ which dominated the eyebrow trend for the last couple of years.

Hair

Believe it or not, your hairstyle can be used to express your personality in myriad ways, too. In the world of pop-psychology via Cosmopolitan, redheads are deemed fun-loving, curls are thought to indicate generosity, and medium length, natural hair can give off the sense you are a logical and straight-forward thinker.

Though there might be some truth in that, the way you style your hair can carry more functional purposes, able to emphasise and shape your facial features in a certain way to portray a certain mood or emotion. Or, your choice of hairstyle can be used to simply highlight elements of your face that you’re particularly keen to draw attention to.

Hair colour also allows us to express ourselves and our feelings. In the last couple of years, we’ve seen people dye their tresses in blends of blue and green like a mermaid, rainbow-like pastel shades like a unicorn, and the most popular shade of the last couple of years; pink.

As Allure explains, pink is associated with various personality traits, including “gentleness, empathy, sensitivity, caring, sweetness, compassion, tenderness, nurturance, and deference.” The colour also offers a nugget of escapism. Who doesn’t need a little escapism, even at the best of times? And we’re sure you don’t need reminding that the last couple of years haven’t exactly been the best of times.

Body Art

There are lots of different types of body art out there that might appeal to your personality and your style choices. Tattoos are increasingly popular and mainstream, meaning that they are a common way for people to express themselves. The one downside to tattoos is that they are on the more permanent side of things.

If you find yourself with a tattoo that you regret, the team from laser tattoo removal at GHB Clinic tell us that you may well need a series of sessions before the tattoo is totally removed from your skin. This is a good option if you either can’t or don’t want to get a cover-up tattoo.

One option for people who like a design or the idea of body art, but aren’t sure about a permanent tattoo, is to look for more temporary options. For example, henna is a beautiful dye used as hair dye and as a temporary body art, usually lasting a few weeks.

Nails

If you find that you don’t always have the time to express yourself through hair and makeup, painting your nails can be a great way to express your personality, too.

Long-lasting and surprisingly durable, an intricately designed set of nails can simply serve as a little reminder about who you are. For a classy look, opt for a nude nail, yet if you tend to channel a style which falls more on the eclectic side, you may go for bright neons and diamantes.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Being yourself should be the most important factor in determining how you dress. If you prefer little to no make-up, don’t feel pressured to start doing wild eyeshadow designs – and vice versa. Do not be afraid to express your true self through your daily image.

What Is Jello Skin? How to Achieve That Amazing Flawless Look At Home

Skin can be one of the most challenging features to deal with when making yourself look flawless. There are many ways that people try to hide or cover up blemishes or scars, but sometimes those efforts do not always come out looking natural.

For instance, if you attempt to cover up blemishes using makeup, it can be heavy and cake on the skin, which causes your appearance to look unnatural. If you have issues with acne scars or blemishes, you may want to consider using jello skin treatment as a possible solution. There are several ways to use jello to get your skin looking flawless.

WHAT IS JELLO SKIN?

Jello skin is a method to cover the blemishes, scars, or acne on your face with gelatin. The idea behind this type of treatment is that if you can turn the gelatine into a liquid and then put it over the scarred area on your face, it will form itself to the shape of the deepest part of the blemish. The gelatine will then dry and tighten, allowing it to create a smooth appearance on your face as if there was nothing wrong with it. The final result will be that when your skin heals, the blemishes are gone.

HOW TO ACHIEVE JELLO SKIN

To achieve jello skin, you need to purchase gelatin mixes that you can find at your local grocery store or pharmacy. You may be wondering how you will put these products on your face? Well, it is pretty simple. According to the team at beelineskincare.com, all you have to do is take a little bit of the product and mix it with water in your hands to create a liquid. Next, take the liquid and spread it over your skin to cover up the blemishes or scars that you would like to be removed. Then all you have to do is wait for it to dry, and voila! You will have smooth, flawless-looking skin in no time.

Alternatively you could seek a dedicated jelly skin-care product, of which there are now many on the market.

For more lasting results, it is recommended that you repeat the process each day for about two weeks. You should find permanent results after your skin is completely healed if you do this.

Read: 5 reasons to make your own skincare products

WHY JELLO?

There are many reasons why people have chosen jello as an effective method to cover up blemishes on their faces. One of the main reasons people like to use this product is that it is cheap and affordable for everyone. You can find jello products at any grocery store or pharmacy, so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding the gelatin mixes that work best for your skin type and needs.

Not causing skin irritation is another reason why many choose to use jello to cover up acne scars or blemishes because it generally doesn’t irritate the skin. Many makeup products can be harsh on your face, causing you to develop acne or irritation. However, jello is gentle and non-irritating, so it will not cause any pain or discomfort when using it on your face.

Another reason to use jello skin to remove blemishes is that anecdotal evidence exists of individuals trying this process and seeing positive results.

Another beneficial aspect of using jello to treat acne scars or blemishes is that it generally won’t cause pain to the skin. Some makeup products can be pretty harsh on your face, but a jello-based skin treatment doesn’t tend to cause discomfort.

In addition to the above benefits of using jello skin treatment, it is also effortless to use. You can find jello products at your local store, and then all you have to do is spread the substance over your skin to cover up blemishes or scars. Once you have managed to apply the jello, it will only take a few minutes for it to dry and when it does; you will have flawless-looking skin.

WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES?

There are a few disadvantages to using jello as an acne scar removal method; however, most of them outweigh any negative aspects that this product can have on your face. The primary disadvantage that many people find when they use jello is that it may not be effective for everyone. Jello skin treatment may not work the same way on everyone, and if it does not have a positive effect, you will want to look for another product that can help your face.

Another disadvantage of using jello to remove acne scars and blemishes is that it takes time to become effective. It may take anywhere from two weeks to two months before you notice a significant difference in your face. If you feel this is too long of a period, you can choose another product that will work more quickly on your skin.

It should also be noted that using jello on your skin isn’t a vegan friendly solution, as the preparation uses gelatin, which is a protein made through boiling the bones, tendons and cartilage of pigs and cows.

The last possible disadvantage that some people find when they decide to use jello as an acne scar removal method is that, in occasional cases, it may lead to discomfort.

THE BOTTOM LINE

If you are tired of using makeup products every day that do not work correctly on your face, then jello may be the right choice for you. It comes with various benefits, including being generally painless and tending not to irritate your skin.

Those who use jello as a blemish removal method, much to their initial surprise, may well find themselves satisfied with the results they see after several weeks. Of course, it may not work for everyone, and may take up to two months before you begin to notice a significant difference in your acne scars or blemishes, but if you’re looking for a novel route to flawless skin, you might want to consider this one.

THE IDEAL TRAVEL GUIDE: 6 MUST TRY DISHES IN HANOI

Vietnamese food is experiencing a just upsurge in popularity and Hanoi is the heart of the country and its cuisine. If only here for the short time, you can enjoy all of the dishes below, as the cuisine rarely discriminates between breakfast, lunch and dinner. If truly hungry, you could manage all in one day!

Pho

Pho is Vietnam’s national dish and Hanoians live off the stuff. For breakfast, after a night out or for every meal of the day. It is said that Hanoi runs on Pho.

If you think that you’ve had Pho in England, you can think again. It’s like comparing a Dominos to a Neapolitan. In Vietnam the broths are deep, the best running on 100 year old mother stocks and the exact recipe a closely guarded secret. No two establishments are the same, only adding to the famous dishes’ charm. Pho comes in many shapes and sizes.

Bun Cha

By now you’ve probably seen the viral video of Obama enjoying this dish, a Hanoi institution, in a place that people in-the-know frequented long before his and Anthony Bourdain’s visit in 2016. We understand why the then president travelled half way across the world for this dish – barbequed pork, pork mince patties, a sweet, fish sauce based broth, fresh herbs – what’s not to love? Its pleasure lies in its generosity, it’s always huge and filling. Don’t feel obliged to finish it, though why wouldn’t you? Traditionally enjoyed with a side of crispy, crab and shrimp spring roll, this is THE Hanoi dish – it is rarely found, or at least replicated, outside the capital.

Bún chả Hương Liên is found on 24 Lê Văn Hưu.

Banh Mi

Maybe the most familar dish on the list, Banh Mi shops have been popping up all over the world of late, but nowhere does them quite like Hanoi. A freshly cooked, hollow and crispy baguette, with a choice of fillings made in house, it is one hell of a breakfast.

Once you recognise it, you’ll see a red plastic bag of banh mi hanging off every Hanoian’s motorbike in the morning. Most traditionally a mix of omlette, pate and pickled vegetables, Banh Mi has the influence of the French at its heart – enjoy next to one of Hanoi’s yellow bricked French colonial buildings for extra effect.

Bun Bo Nam Bo

Refreshing, salad-y and subtle, we love this dish in the summer months when soup is just too warming. Cold noodles, lightly fried beef and the rightly ubiqitious fresh mint are the key components. There is a light, peanut based dressing found at the bottom of the bowl which you have to dig deep to access – mix this in before enjoying and you’re good to go.

Whilst Bun Bo Nam Bo is a southern dish, perhaps the finest version in the entire country is found in Hanoi, at 67 Hàng Điếu.

Cha Ca La Vong

As is so often the case in this city, the one dish wonder restaurants are the best. The original Cha Ca La Vong has been serving this plate for generations. Again, very Hanoian and poorly replicated outside of the city, Cha Ca involves some flavours not necessarily associated with Vietnam – turmeric and fermented rice marinaded catfish. It’s served in a frying pan at the table and with plenty of dill, it’s a real treat.

Notoriously, at Cha Ca La Vong you have to endure brisk, bordering on offensive, service, to get this dish, but that’s part of its charm; you feel like you’ve earned it.

Mien Luon

Eel noodles, to be enjoyed crispy or fresh, dry or with a broth; just don’t come with an indecisive mind! The pleasure of this dish is in that it never gets dull, it’s light enough to eat in large portions, and with varying contrasts in texture, you could eat it forever. The eel is served mixed with noodles and a vast array of extras. The baby kumquats on every shop’s table provide a perfect sweet and sour foil which brings everything together.

Honourable mentions

Hu Tieu

Another southern dish that’s incredibly popular in this proudly northern city, Hu Tieu comes in many guises, and we haven’t yet worked out what gives a Hu Tieu its name, but the one topped with crispy pork belly and a mountain of fried shallots found at 49C Trần Quốc Tuấn is so good we coudn’t leave it off this list.

Bánh cuốn

Ideal for breakfast, this is a steamed crepe made from rice flour and water. It’s stuffed with ground pork and mushrooms and served with a fried shallot-based version of nước chấm, the sweet fish sauce and lime-based sauce. It also comes with sliced chả lụa (Vietnamese pork sausage) which looks a bit like spam, but don’t let this put you off – it’s delicious. The version at 14 Hàng Gà is arguably the city’s finest.

Ca Phe Nau Da

No list of consumption in the capital would be complete without Ca Phe Nau Da, a drink so sensual we are in goosebumps just writing this. Starbucks’ expansion famously failed in this country and here’s why; Every corner of every street of every district has a family run, no frills shop selling filter-dripped Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk over ice, and this coffee is the best coffee in the world as far as we’re concerned. A lesser coffee would buckle under the sweetness of the milk but Vietnamese coffee is assertive enough to cope; the balance is rich, indulgent, thick and perfect. Apart from Pho, it is the must-try of the city.

The Ultimate GCSE Maths Survival Guide For Busy Teens

Navigating the path through GCSE Maths can feel like steering a ship through foggy waters for many teens, especially if you suffer from the dreaded maths anxiety! Between juggling schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and perhaps even a part-time job, finding the time and energy to focus on maths can be a real challenge.

Fear not, for this guide is here to arm you with strategies, tips, and a mindset that will help you tackle your GCSE Maths with confidence and efficiency.

Get Organised: Your Maths Toolkit

First things first, let’s talk about organisation. Having a clear plan and all your resources in order can make a huge difference. Create a dedicated study area free from distractions, and keep all your maths materials there: textbooks, exercise books, past papers, and any revision guides. Think of this space as your maths command centre.

Next, set up a study schedule that works for you. Be realistic about the time you have available, and try to stick to your plan as closely as possible. Regular, focused study sessions are far more effective than cramming at the last minute.

Understanding The Syllabus: Know Your Battlefield

Understanding the GCSE Maths syllabus is crucial. It outlines what you need to learn and how you’ll be assessed. Familiarise yourself with the topics covered and the format of the exam papers. This knowledge will help you focus your revision on the areas that need the most attention.

The syllabus can also help you identify the topics you find most challenging. Once you know these, you can allocate more time to them in your study schedule. Remember, tackling difficult topics head-on is better than avoiding them.

Practice Makes Perfect: The Art Of Revision

Practice truly is the backbone of success in GCSE Maths. Engaging with past papers under timed conditions offers invaluable benefits. It not only helps you familiarise yourself with the format of the questions but also prepares you for the pressure of the actual exam environment. Once you’ve completed a paper, take the time to go through your answers with a fine-tooth comb. Understanding where you made mistakes and the reasoning behind the correct answers is an excellent way to learn and improve.

Beyond working through past papers, embracing the wealth of online resources and apps available for GCSE Maths revision is a game-changer. These digital platforms often feature interactive exercises and quizzes, making the revision process not only more engaging but also more effective.

One standout resource is Save My Exams. This platform offers a treasure trove of material for you to draw upon, including examiner-written Maths GCSE revision resources. This means you’re getting insider insight into how questions are structured and what examiners are looking for in your answers.

Remember, the goal of revision is not just to memorise facts but to understand concepts and develop problem-solving skills. With the right tools and a dedicated approach, you can master the art of revision and set yourself up for success in GCSE Maths.

Seek Support: You’re Not Alone

Remember, you’re not on this journey alone. Your teachers are there to help, so don’t hesitate to ask them for advice or clarification on topics you’re struggling with. Likewise, studying with friends can be a great way to share knowledge and learn from each other.

If you find yourself needing more support, consider a tutor. A tutor can provide personalised help and guidance, focusing specifically on the areas where you need the most improvement.

Time Management: Mastering The Clock

One of the most critical skills for success in not just GCSE Maths, but all aspects of life, is effective time management. It’s about making the most of the time you have and using it wisely. Begin by breaking down your revision into manageable chunks.

Short, focused study periods are often more productive than long, unfocused ones. Use a timer to create revision sessions of 25-30 minutes, followed by a 5-10 minute break. This technique, known as the Pomodoro Technique, can help keep your mind fresh and your concentration sharp.

Prioritise your revision based on the syllabus and the most challenging areas. It’s okay to spend more time on topics that you struggle with; just make sure you’re not neglecting other areas. Setting specific goals for each study session can also help you stay focused and on track.

Dealing With Exam Stress: Keeping Calm & Carrying On

Exam stress is a natural part of the GCSE experience, but it shouldn’t overwhelm you. Managing stress effectively can help you perform at your best. Start by setting realistic expectations for yourself. It’s good to aim high, but putting too much pressure on yourself can be counterproductive.

Find stress-reduction techniques that work for you. This could be deep breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, or simply taking time to enjoy your hobbies. Make sure to talk about your feelings with someone you trust, whether it’s a parent, friend, or teacher. Sometimes, just voicing your concerns can make them feel more manageable.

Remember, your worth is not defined by your exam results. Doing your best is all that anyone can ask for. Regardless of the outcome, there are always paths forward and opportunities to succeed in the future.

Stay Positive: The Right Mindset

Securing a positive mindset is more than just a good practice; it’s essential for navigating the journey through GCSE Maths with resilience and determination. Believing in your capacity to succeed lays the foundation for every study session, every mock exam, and eventually, the real thing. It’s about cultivating a belief system where setbacks are not seen as roadblocks but as stepping stones towards your goal.

Moreover, staying positive means keeping things in perspective. GCSE Maths is important, but it’s just one part of your academic journey and life. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, take a step back. Talk to someone you trust about how you’re feeling, whether it’s a teacher, a friend, or a family member. Sometimes, simply sharing your worries can lighten your load and help you regain a positive outlook.

Incorporate activities into your routine that help maintain a positive mindset. This could be as simple as starting each study session with a few minutes of mindfulness or meditation to centre yourself, keeping a gratitude journal where you jot down small successes or things you’re thankful for each day, or setting up a reward system for reaching study milestones.

Remember, your attitude can significantly impact your performance. Approaching your GCSE Maths with a positive mindset doesn’t just make the preparation phase more enjoyable and enhances your ability to absorb information, solve problems, and perform under exam conditions.

With the right mindset, you’re not just preparing for an exam; you’re building resilience and a positive outlook that will benefit you well beyond your GCSEs!

Best Of Luck!

Mastering GCSE Maths requires a combination of organisation, hard work, and the right mindset. By understanding the syllabus, making the most of your study time, seeking support when needed, and taking care of your well-being, you can navigate the challenges of GCSE Maths and come out on top.

Remember, this guide is not just about surviving GCSE Maths but thriving in it. With determination and the right approach, you can achieve the grades you’re aiming for. Good luck!
