4 IDEAL TIPS FOR A BEACH HOLIDAY WITH THE KIDS

Are you planning a beach holiday with your little ones? Maybe you’re considering jetting off abroad to somewhere hot and sunny, or thinking of a weekend in the summer at one of the UK’s most popular beach destinations. A day at the beach with young children can be a lot of fun, but as most parents will know, it can also be quite stressful. Whether it’s the first time you’ve taken your tot to the beach or you’ve done it before, here are some top tips for you to make sure that you have fun and keep your sanity when you bring your young children along to the sandy shores.

Pack Plenty of Sunscreen

When you’re visiting the beach with young kids, you can never have too much sunscreen. Young skin is very delicate and more susceptible to sunburn, so taking more than enough sun protection products is essential. When applying sunscreen, it’s best to start the process inside before you hit the sand – this way, there’s more time for the sunscreen to absorb into your child’s skin, as well as making for one less time that you’ll need to apply lotion all over their sandy body.

Take Protective Clothing

Although it might be tempting to let your child run around the beach in a little bathing suit, this can also cause more problems when it comes to sunburn and irritation from other elements at the beach such as the sand. Protective clothing such as loose fitting t-shirts and shorts are ideal for a day at the beach, and they will cover your child’s shoulders and other areas which may be more susceptible to burning. It also cuts down on the amount of sunscreen that you’ll need to take along.

Choose Accommodation Carefully

If you’re planning a beach holiday abroad, choosing a family-friendly hotel can make the whole tip a lot easier for you. Choosing accommodation which offers childcare services such as a crèche or kid’s club also means that you can get away on your own for a while and relax and enjoy your holiday without the need to constantly keep an eye on your little ones. For great family friendly holiday destinations in both the UK and abroad, visit awaywiththekids.co.uk.

Beach Essentials

Visiting the beach with kids means that you’ll need to bring along a lot more stuff than if you were on your own. Essentials such as baby powder can help to remove sand that’s stuck on sensitive skin, and help to relieve any irritation – the travel sized versions can be a godsend for parents at the beach. You can also get sand free beach bags, which are fantastic for storing baby wipes, sunscreen, nappies, snacks, and everything else that you’ll need to take along without having to deal with removing tons of sand from it at the end of the day. Mesh beach bags are quite inexpensive, and it’s easy to simply shake the sand from them when needed.

Have fun with your kids at whichever beaches you plan to visit!

HAVE YOU BOOKED YOUR AMAZING WINTER SUN BREAK YET?

winter sun

We may be only halfway through January, only a couple more weeks till payday, but for some of us there may be light at the end of the tunnel. The February half term’s looming, and for many families, overworked couples and eager sun seekers that much needed week off is a chance to jet off somewhere sunny! Yes, you’ll finally feel warm, gentle rays of sunshine again on your pale, cold and covered up skin.

Lanzarote

lanzarote

Thanks to its almost tropical year round climate the island of Lanzarote off West Africa has long been a hotspot for those desperate to escape the winter chill. One of the Canary Islands, the temperature rarely dips below twenty degrees and it’s always warm enough to sunbathe and swim. Here, family resorts such as Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise are ten a penny, of course that doesn’t mean you can’t stay in something more private like your own personal villa, apartment or even glamping style yurt. Lanzarote is packed full beautiful volcanic scenery, warm sandy beaches and criss crossing cycle paths. Visit the stunning Timanfaya national park, or hire a boat and take a picnic out the island of La Graciosa before exploring the green, leafy and grape-filled vineyards of La Geria.

Majorca

valldemossa-1840816_960_720

We know that it’s got a reputation for being a bit of a party town but Mallorca, or Majorca one of Spain’s Balearic Islands may just surprise you! Located in the Mediterranean, Majorca is the perfect place to up your tan and once you’ve landed don’t forget to ask about those airport transfers majorca so you can get dropped literally right outside your hotel. Here, beach resorts, shops and seafood restaurants all jostle for tourists attention while away from the hubbub lies acres of warm golden sand, sheltered coves and chalky, white limestone cliff faces.

The island also has numerous Roman and Moorish ruins dotted around the headland. Obviously, the capital Palma is where you’ll find the trendiest bars and clubs but it’s also home to the historic Almudaina Royal Palace, not to mention the amazing 13th-century Santa María Cathedral. Elsewhere, lie entire villages hewn from local stone such as Pollença and gentle, undulating hills are covered in acres of sweet smelling citrus plantations.

Tenerife

teide-238855_960_720

It might be another one of the Canary Islands but with a fabulous, yet very dormant volcano, man made black sand beaches and miles of gorgeous, turquoise ocean Tenerife may be the best of all. Let’s talk about Mt Teide, what was once a lava spilling monster is now silent and visitors are able to wander freely amongst the rocky volcanic landscape which looks decidedly Moon like.

Kids and grown-ups alike will adore a day trip to Loro Parque, a family friendly wildlife reserve and bird sanctuary with on site cinema, restaurants and shops that even has live, whale, seal and dolphin shows. If you’ve come with friends then you’ll be wanting to head to the 24/7 party playground that is Playa De Las Americas! While those looking for an altogether more quiet, restful stay should look towards the seafront hotels and apartments of Playa De Fanabe.

IDEAL POST PROMOTION: DO’S AND DON’TS

For the past six months you’ve worked your back-end off to get yourself recognised. You’ve sacrificed your social life, shed countless tears in the toilets and under eye concealer is no longer a fad purchase, it’s a necessity. So when that much sought after promotion finally does come your way, what then?

We’re here to talk you through some of the do’s and don’ts that accompany that well deserved promotion.

DO: Expect your workmates to act a little differently around you. If you’re close work pals haven’t received their promotion yet, crossing that barrier to a place where you may have to manage their activity may take a little time and gentle nudging.

DON’T: Walk in on your first day you’re new job title kicks in and expect everybody to answer to you. You’re more than likely being watched by everybody to see how you change.

DO: Throw yourself into learning new things. There will be parts of the job that you didn’t even take into consideration before, so now is the time to treat your brain like the sponge it can be and learn, learn, learn!

DON’T: Assume others will take responsibility for your actions. Once you get that promotion you’re one step higher up the food chain and therefore  a little bit less protected. If you see anything going wrong, you have to speak up and become as immersed as possible.

DO: Be prepared for some more late nights. You’ve shown the worlds you talents over the last few months and now that level of productivity is now expected.

DON’T: Become complacent. There will be lots of eyes on you in this new role and you need to be careful that you’re making the right impression.

DO: Keep the momentum going. Whilst you’re the star of the show for the moment, take it as your time to continue to showcase your skills.

DON’T: Rush too much into looking for that next promotion. This stage now is all about learning.

DO: Stay grounded and remember others. Those you’re now tying to boss around are probably due the same promotion anytime soona dn a happy team is a successful team.

DON’T: Overthink everything. You deserve that promotion so allow yourself to enjoy it and don’t overquestion all of your work!

Catherine Maskell, Head of Marketing at Reed, also shared her own top tip:

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Some people working their way up the ladder invest in a mentor or career coach to help, but it’s best to recognise there may be difficult decisions you now have to make a part of your new role. You can confide in a friend who has similar experience, a more senior member of staff or even someone who has good life experience. Quite often these individuals know and understand people, and having an outsider’s perspective really helps.”

5 IDEAL THINGS TO DO ON A LUXURY CITY BREAK IN DUBAI

Known for its sandy beaches, 5-star luxury, shopping nirvana status and sunshine, it’s easy to see why so many people are increasingly opting for Dubai as their dream holiday destination. If you’re looking for the ultimate luxury city break, you need look no further. Each year, millions of tourists flock to the UAE’s most populous emirate to experience the glamour, extravagance and beauty of this Arabian metropolis. So here’s 5 IDEAL things to do on a luxury city break in Dubai.

STAY AT A FANCY HOTEL

Dubai is known across the globe for its endless list of luxurious places to stay, but if you want to take extravagance to the next level, it has to be the sensational Burj Al Arab. Known as the world’s ‘first’ seven star hotel, this retreat is perfect for couples and families looking to experience a holiday like no other. If the revolving beds and private chauffeured Rolls Royce might not be quite within your budget, there are so many stunning luxury hotels to choose from with slightly more reasonable price tags (emphasis on slightly).  Dubai airport transfers make travelling from the airport to the hotel district straightforward, even without a Rolls Royce, and once you’re there you’re in for a few days of complete opulence and relaxation.

SHOP TIL YOU DROP

Dubai is home to the world’s largest shopping centre – the Dubai Mall. Here you can indulge in some retail therapy from designer houses such as Gucci and Armani. There’s also a wide selection of high street stores and unique boutiques, as well as a food court serving delicious treats all day long.

Dubai hosts not one, but two gigantic annual shopping festivals, which should tell you something about what they take seriously. If you enjoy flashing the plastic, you’re in for a real treat in Dubai. Their malls aren’t just for shopping, they’re full of amazing entertainment, like dry ski slopes and aquariums, to lure shoppers, and they’re decorated to be incredibly beautiful. Even if you’re not a fan of shopping, a look around some of Dubai’s malls is a must on any trip.

CHECK OUT THE CULTURE

It’s not all luxury hotels and malls, there’s a whole load of history surrounding the area, as you might expect in the Middle East. Take some time to wander around the Al Fahidi historic district in Dubai to soak up the culture from the exquisite mosques, winding narrow streets, and interesting little boutique shops and cafes. It’s easy to wander around aimlessly soaking it all up, but guided tours are also recommended for those with a greater interest in the history of the area.

RELAX IN A SPA

Nothing says luxury like a spa day and the people of Dubai really know how to unwind in luxury. The city is full of beautifully decorated luxury spas, both traditional and modern. While you’re there you have to check out one of the traditional Hammam spas, which is a Turkish or Middle Eastern style spa, more akin to a steam room or wet sauna, all designed to cleanse and relax your body and mind.

ENJOY A NIGHT ON THE TILES

While the United Arab Emirates is a strict Muslim country, alcohol is still legal. As with everything else in Dubai, they haven’t skimped on their bar and nightclub scene, with stunning venues to choose from decorated in all the ways you could imagine. For a real luxury drink experience, check out the rooftop lounge Atelier M next to the Dubai Marina mall.

4 IDEAL TIPS TO AVOID SPLIT ENDS

0

We all hate split ends. They can ruin your style and make your hair appear dull and lifeless. We’ve asked hairstylist Mark Hill to reveal all about split ends and how to avoid them.

What are Split Ends?

Split Ends are more common on longer hair; as the hair grows and reaches a certain length, the protective layer of the hair, the cuticle, becomes damaged and allows the fibres of the inner layers to fray. Although most often at the ends, splits and tears can happen anywhere along the hair causing breakage to leave the feathery appearance we all call split ends.

Book your appointment at the hairdressers

Just by snipping the ends off will mean your hair will be less likely to split, and will help stop causing any more damage to your hair.  Even if you are growing your hair, make sure you get a trim booked every 8 weeks to keep the ends of your hair healthy and strong.

Condition

Make sure your use a conditioner every time you shampoo your hair.  A conditioner will help close the hairs cuticles tightly after shampooing and using them actually helps prevent damage.  Some people stay away from conditioners as they think they make their hair too soft and floppy.  If this is you, then you are using the wrong conditioner.

Use a conditioning treatment

If you use heated appliances, have a colour regularly, or your hair feels brittle, apply a treatment at least once a week and leave for about 10 minutes, longer if you have the time.  Try to keep your hair warm whilst the treatment is on as this will increase the conditioning power, so either wrap your hair in a towel or lay in a hot bath.

Always use protection

Prevention is better than cure, so always use a Heat Protection Spray before you use any heated appliance. These will help to seal the cuticles even further to prevent split ends and will add a great shine to your hair.

5 IDEAL TIPS FOR BEATING BLUE MONDAY

Dr Hilary Jones gives his top 5 tips for beating the Blue Monday blues

We’re deep in the dog days of winter and winter depression is a very real thing. On what is claimed to be the most depressing day of the year, ITV Daybreak’s Health Editor and Alzheimer’s Society supporter, Dr Hilary Jones, gives his top 5 tips to keep you smiling on Blue Monday.

Go on the run

Exercise has been proven to lift your mood and improve well-being. Sticking to a new regime is much easier if you have a goal. I’ve signed up to the Bupa Great South Run in October to keep me motivated over the coming months.

Go the extra mile for someone else

Studies show that acts of kindness for someone else make us feel good too! Get your friends to sponsor you for your run and raise funds for charity. I’m running for Alzheimer’s Society to support people with dementia and their carers. You can get your charity place at alzheimers.org.uk/greatrun

Be green

Research carried out by mental health charity Mind shows that connecting with nature through activities like walking and gardening can be as effective as prescription drugs in treating mental distress. Find out more at www.ecominds.org.uk

Be game for a laugh

Whether it’s watching a favourite film or TV show or going out to a comedy night, laughter is an endorphin trigger and helps to reduce stress. Sometimes laughter really is the best medicine.

Go bananas

Bananas contain tryptophan, which the body uses to make the happiness hormone serotonin. They also contain potassium and vitamin B6 levels which can become depleted if you’re under stress. Include leafy greens, energy packed seeds, some oily fish and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet, and you’ll be feeding you mind as well as your body.

TOP TIPS: FEEL GREAT FROM THE SKIN UP

0

FEEL GREAT

Looking good and feeling good tend to go hand in hand.  How many times have you walked out of the house with your hair in a top-knot, wearing yesterday’s tracksuit and an ill fitted bra, feeling like you can dominate the world?

The key to looking good starts from within and then radiates out.  If our mood is good in the morning we tend to dress better and walk with more attitude.  We’ve compiled a guide to help you achieve a feeling of gorgeousness from the foundations.

Eat Well

smoothie

We put a lot of effort into ensuring our cars have the right lubricants.  But how much effort do we put into our own bodies?  Imagine putting petrol into a diesel car, it simply wouldn’t work.  The key to feeling good lies with diet.  So stop skipping breakfast and kick start your day with a protein kick or a nutrient rich smoothie.

Hydrate, Rehydrate

water 2

Our bodies can survive for a long time without food but starved of water you can die within 4 days.  Hydration is the king of clear looking skin and a fresh feeling body as it flushes all the toxins that build up from the outside environment or processed foods.  Aim for 2 ltrs a day or more if you are doing heavy cardio sessions.

Moisturise.  Every day

woman-legs-relaxation-beauty (2)

Nailed feeling good on the inside and your skin is already showing the benefits.  Coconut oil is a fantastic natural base to give your skin that extra boost.  It’s antibacterial so fantastic for keeping away spots and (eeww) any unwanted smells.  Whilst it might sound greasy, coconut produces quite a dry oil.  Use it on your face, body and even your hair.  You’ll smell great too.  Skin protection is important too so take a look at these Five Reasons You Should Be Wearing SPF This Winter

Getting The First Layer Right

bra

We all know that feeling of getting home after work and pinging off our uncomfy bra but imagine getting home at night and taking everything else off except your bra.  Gorgeous underwear will make you feel sexy and when you feel sexy? You look sexy.  It radiates out of you.  Look for a great day to night set like this beautiful Empreinte French inspired collection.

Comfort Is King

comfort

We aren’t suggesting topping off your hard work with a onesie, although that would be cosy.  When it comes to clothing you have to make sure the fit is spot on.  Ever bought a pair of skinny jeans that slide down your bum as you put your shoes on?  Take time to select your outfit and when buying clothes, ignore the size label.  Most high street shops have huge variations between sizes.  Cut the labels out if you must.  Just be comfy.

Smell Fantastic

perfume 1

Nothing is better than knowing you leave a trail of people behind you inhaling your awesome.  Invest in a good quality perfume which will leave you smelling glorious all day.

These simple steps from the base up will ensure you rule every day.  Looking good and feeling great.

PLAYING WITH THE BIG BOYS: HAVING YOUR SMALL BUSINESS INTERACT WITH BIGGER ONES

woman-hand-desk-office

When it comes to working as a freelancer or a small business, it’s the big jobs and purchases that really count. Big jobs can provide months of work, making them invaluable to people who struggle to find it. But, you need to be able to communicate with these bigger companies, before you can start making any deals. And, this means following some rules with the different ways that they may talk to you. To help you out, this post will go through some of the more important things to consider.

Acting like a professional company is hard. Especially when you’re a freelance worker or your business doesn’t have any staff. Businesses will have certain expectations, though. And, if you fail to meet these, it can spell doom for your future dealings with them. This makes it very stressful for small businesses to get in touch with the big guys. But, it doesn’t have to be. Building a shell around your small operation that makes it look like a giant isn’t too hard. You just have to start in the right place.

website 1

For most businesses, your website is the first thing that prospective customers will see. And, this includes other businesses. If you want to strike out and start working for people in higher places, your website needs to be very well designed. To achieve this, it’s usually best to use a professional develop to get the job done. This will enable you to have a professional website, without any compromises. A lot of people use website builders like Wix or GoDaddy to do this job by themselves. But, this will be very easy to see on your website, and it won’t look good. You will also miss out on loads of website options; that could make a real difference to your business.

Business Phone Number

Outside of your website, you still have some other challenges to maintaining professionalism. A lot of businesses will expect to talk to you on the phone. But, a cell phone or home phone number will look lazy. So, you need something a little better. Thankfully, you can borrow someone else’s. There are loads of services out there that offer business phone numbers that can be used in a cell phone. This gives you the chance to look like a business, while still doing your work on the road. So, you never have to shut down.

mobile phone

Business Address

Along with calling you, sometimes you may have to share physical items with your clients. So, you need an address that they can use. A home address can make a business look spammy and unprofessional. So, it’s best to go with a business address. But, if you work from home or don’t have a business address, this can be a challenge. Thankfully, with services like physicaladdress.com, you can borrow someone else’s address. When mail gets sent to the address, they will forward it on to you. This will only add about a day of delays when it comes to you getting the mail.

post

Documentation

During your dealings with a big company, you’ll probably have to provide some documentation. Usually, this will be from the very start. If you have to make proposals or bids for work, you need to make sure that your document is headed properly and looks professional. Likewise, invoices and contracts should be professionally made. Having incorrect information on documents can be devastating when it comes to your professionalism. Documents like this can be made from templates. But, you always have to make sure the information is relevant to your work.

Future Communications

You also have to think about future communications, when looking to deal with big businesses. When you sign a contract, you will be expected to uphold it. If you don’t, it will be hard for you to get work from the company again. Of course, this means that things like missing deadlines and failing to produce documents can be really bad for your business. So, when you’re handling this work, you always need to keep your agreement in mind. And, of course, the future work you want to do for them.

Hopefully, this will inspire you to start putting more effort into the appearance of your business. Making changes like this can have a massive positive impact on your business. So, it’s well worth making sure that you work on it. Always talk to professionals when you need help, though. This can be a tough journey.

8 IDEAL REASONS WHY WOMEN LOVE SHOES

0

Shoes, dear shoes. Oh, how do we love thee? Of course, we are not the first women to be completely obsessed with our shoes. And nor will we be the last. First, there was Cinderella, then there was Carrie Bradshaw. Oh, and nearly every single female out there, if we’re counting.

Indeed, we are yet to meet a woman that doesn’t have strong feelings towards their shoe collection. But have you ever wondered the actual reasons behind the obsession? We did, so we asked Sarah Watkinson-Yull, founder of British brand Yull Shoes, to share here 8 IDEAL reasons why women love shoes.

CONFIDENCE

Shoes give you more confidence. I am frequently asked ‘why did you go into shoes?’ and the simple answer is ‘I just love the way that you can put on a pair of shoes and feel so different – Shoes for me are my rescue remedy!’

When people see you walking down the street in the new women’s Diana Ferrari shoes, you can’t help but feel great. Having a good pair of shoes on your feet can boost your confidence and make you feel like you can conquer anything.

IMPROVE YOUR POSTURE

‘Wearing the right pair of shoes can improve your posture. Anyone with back problems knows that a lot of problems are due to slouching and wearing the wrong shoes. Shoes can change your appearance, and I’m a firm believer in nude heels elongating your legs. The best investment shoes are a pair of well made and well cut nude courts. Our Mayfair Nude’s are a perfect example!’

COMPLETE AN OUTFIT

Simply put, shoes complete an outfit. A little black dress can be dressed down with some flats, or alternatively, dressed up with some heels. A change of shoes is all you need to go from smart to casual or vice versa. They represent the icing on the cake, but flipped over.

VARIETY

As the guys at Shoe Time so sagely intone, there’s just so much a variety of shoes out there; shoes perfect for all occasions, wellies for festivals, heels for special occasions, every day comfortable shoes, boots for the cold and snow, sandals for the beach…just so many different shoes for different occasions to fill your wardrobe with! We particularly love our new Brighton Brogues which add a pop of colour to any outfit.

SIZE DOESN’T MATTER

Shoes, it has to be said, don’t discriminate. They adapt to our changes without missing a beat. Or step. Indeed, we can pile on a few extra pounds and our shoes will always forgive you by still fitting. That’s the beauty.

YOU CAN COLLECT THEM

Some shoes can be considered as collectors items. Some people even buy two pairs of the same shoes – one for display and one to wear. This is prevalent with shoes that are limited editions, or collaborative releases. People can express themselves via whatever are the current hot shoes on the market, and choose to tie an outfit together with a classic heel, bright platform, or trendy sneaker.

THE TELL A STORY

‘There’s a great old saying that you can tell all you need to know about a person by the shoes that they’re wearing. Tell a story, play on it and go elaborate by adding some adding drama to your outfit – our Chelsea Flower’s do the job perfectly’.

RETAIL THERAPY

It has been proven that buying new shoes increases the shopper’s dopamine levels by an unusually large amount. A natural high that makes you feel good and have self-confidence? Count us in!

TOP 10 TIPS FOR YOUR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TRAVEL

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or an ambitious employee, you may have been given the opportunity to expand your horizons and travel internationally for business. International business trips can be really exciting. They can open up a world of opportunity for you both professionally and personally. But just as much as a new destination can become a new adventure, the different culture and business environment can overwhelm and confuse even the most experienced professionals.

With the help of Kara Ronin, International business etiquette expert and founder of Executive Impressions, here’s 10 tips for international business travel

Research the country and culture you’re going to

The more knowledge you have of the country and culture, the more prepared you will look and feel when you meet your international business partners. Learn as much as you can about business etiquette in the country you’re going to. Pay particular attention to the expectations as to women in business; they may be different to what you’re used to in your home country.

Take a folder to store your passport and travel documents

Keeping your passport, itinerary and any entry or exit cards you may need in the one folder can really help speed up the process at immigration, and it makes you feel more prepared and less flustered. I highly recommend printing copies of all your travel documents and itinerary before you depart. Don’t rely on electronic copies on your tablet or smartphone. You never know when they’ll run out of battery.

Use plane-friendly toiletries

You’ll want to make your in-flight experience as comfortable as possible while at the same time being courteous to those sitting around you. Spraying perfume may instantly revitalise you at the end of a long-haul flight, but won’t be pleasant for others around you if they’re allergic or sensitive to that particular scent. Instead of spray perfume, use roll-on perfume as a light, travel-friendly alternative.

Pack a dark, conservative suit

In some cultures, the professional dress code is highly conservative. If your international business partner belongs to such a culture and you want to connect with them better, a conservative outfit is what you should pack. Add to your suitcase a dark suit in navy, black, or charcoal, and a crisp business shirt. You can add elegance and personality to your suit with unique buttons, a scarf, or jewellary.

Pack closed-toed shoes and stockings

Depending on the country you’re travelling to, your peep-toe heels may not be appropriate for business meetings. In some cultures, you’ll only be considered professional if you wear closed-toed shoes. Pack into your suitcase a pair of closed-toed heels and hole-free stockings in case you’re asked to remove your shoes before entering a room.

Take a business card case

When you’re about to exchange business cards with your international business partner, you’ll really impress if you use a quality business card case. Taking your card out of a quality business card case says that you’re somebody who cares about the smaller details. Placing the other person’s card into your business card case says that you hold that person in high regard.

Learn how to exchange business cards

In some cultures, such as the US, UK, and Australia, it’s acceptable to use one hand when exchanging business cards. In other cultures, such as Japan and China, you must use both hands to convey the right amount of respect to the other person. Before your trip, find out whether people in that culture use one hand or both hands to exchange cards.

Adapt your handshake

In Western business cultures, we’re often taught that a firm handshake is how you project confidence and power in the business world. As professional women, we take particular care to convey this exact image when we greet somebody for the first time. But how do you think somebody from China would interpret this type of handshake when they’re more accustomed to a gentler handshake with less eye contact? To avoid overpowering the other person when you greet them, loosen the grip of your handshake just a little.

Soften your eye contact

A firm handshake is often accompanied by direct eye contact in Western business cultures. It helps to enhance the trust factor. But if you use this direct eye contact during your business trip to Asia, it could make you look aggressive and overpowering instead of confident and trustworthy.  When you meet somebody for the first time on your international business trip, relax your eye contact a little.

Be aware of your personal space

Depending on the culture in which you grew up, you may need a large amount of space around you to feel comfortable when talking to others, or a small amount. In most Western cultures, it’s usually an arm’s length. In Asia or Latin America, it’s often much smaller. When you’re on your international business trip and you feel someone edge away during conversation, you may be standing inside their personal space. Don’t move toward them. Respect that person’s personal space if you want to be able to connect with them.

SUSHI FOR ME – YAKITORI FOR YOU WITH STICKS ‘N’ SUSHI

0

Every now and then you stumble upon a restaurant that makes you remember why you love food so much and Sticks ‘n’ Sushi is one of those places. It’s not surprising that it’s one of the most successful restaurant groups in Denmark and has been described as the market leader in Japanese cuisine in the Nordic region.  Whether you’re looking for somewhere seriously impressive or are just in the mood for an evening of fusion sushi indulgence, this is the restaurant for you…

The IDEA

To serve bite-sized, fusion food delicacies that form an aesthetic whole on the plate before you.

THE CONCEPT

Aptly named Sticks ‘n’ Sushi, the concept behind the restaurant is to combine Japan’s most famous dish with an assortment of grilled yakatori, which are sticks of meat and fish. This innovative idea by brothers Jens and Kim Rahbek and their brother-in- law Thor Anderson, was inspired by their half-Japanese, half-Danish background. Wanting to create a cuisine that combined the two culinary traditions, Sticks ‘n’ Sushi was born and with it – fusion food at its finest.

THE LOCATION

Situated on Henrietta Street in Covent Garden, a district which is world famous for it’s mix of shops, restaurants, history, entertainment and culture,  Sticks ‘n’ Sushi is the ideal place for theatre goers and shoppers alike to indulge in some quality food. It’s also a hotspot  for business lunches (and those wanting to impress clients) in the West End area. This restaurant definitely attracts a young and fashionable crowd, and is the perfect venue to enjoy well-priced platters with cocktails before a night out in central London.

STICKS 'N' SUSHI

THE WELCOME

The staff at Stick ‘n’ Sushi walk the tables and talk the tables, in other words they take their role as hosts seriously and do it well. They keep an eye on the their covers, talk happily to customers without being overbearing and in three words are cheerful, friendly and informative.

THE MENU

As a rule of thumb, when there are photographs of food on the menu it’s a bad sign (think tourist traps and dodgy takeaways), however Sticks ‘n’ Sushi’s menu is an exception to this rule. The restaurants stylish picture book list of options is a great example of how to display pictures of food well, so well that it will make you want to order everything on the menu. The basic premise of the menu is quality sushi and sizzling sticks of the meat, fish and vegetarian variety. The options offered of sushi and yakitori is extensive and all the food is fresh, packed with flavour and the presentation is impeccable. The sushi at this restaurant is so good that words don’t do it justice, all we can say is that after you have tried it – you will crave it, you will daydream about it, and you will want to go back for more.

DENMARK VS BRITAIN

You have Big Ben, we have Radhustarnet. You drink a great deal of beer, we make a great beer. The restaurant is full of cheeky and light hearted Denmark Vs Britain slogans. The one we love the best, and that we hope comes true is…

You have two of us, we have many of us.

Two restaurants in London. Ten in Denmark

However, – if we work hard, and spoil you to the last bite, we hope that one day you will catch up .

THE DINING

The restaurant exudes nothing more than coolness, think ultra-sleek Scandinavian chic mixed with Japanese modernism. The earthiness of the exposed brick work walls, contrasted with the clean lines of the modern furnishings and dark timber detailing, reflects the two different cultures influencing the resulting culinary fusion.  Sticks ‘n’ Sushi has a busy and buzzing atmosphere, but also manages to muster the feeling of intimacy, created by the low lighting levels and the principle of sharing platters that helps to accentuate this mood.  Also, staying true to its Nordic routes, the restaurant plays the likes of Scandinavian band Kings of Convenience.

STICKS 'N' SUSHI

THE GOOD

If you are a sushi lover, but have fish-phobic friends or family, then this sushi restaurant is the place for you as it equally caters for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. With it’s deliciously innovative menu, Sticks ‘n’ Sushi will help you to rediscover sushi all over again.

THE BAD

Sticks ‘n’ Sushi is definitely pricey, however if you’re after top quality sushi then dig a little deeper into your pockets as the sashimi, nigiri and maki are worth their weight in pound coins.

THE DOWNRIGHT INTERESTING

The fusion food of Sticks ‘n’ Sushi definitely defies all the rules. This is a restaurant where it’s normal to eat sushi with BBQ sauce (trust us it actually works, and if you don’t believe us then try the Hell’s Kitchen rolls) and where goats cheese is acceptable on a Japanese menu. For pudding we highly recommend trying the dessert platter; a quadruplet of mini desserts and any pudding lovers heaven.

RESTAURANT REVIEW: LE GARRICK

 filtered-image1

Looking for somewhere in London that serves up fine French fare? Voila! Full of rustic charm, Le Garrick is an authentic restaurant offering a fully-loaded French menu

If you’re looking for a restaurant that dishes up excellent French fare in an authentic setting, you could just jump on the Eurostar and be in Paris within a few hours. However, we’ve found a restaurant that means you needn’t bother with all that hassle. Serving up French favourites with finesse, flavour and faultless service, Le Garrick has been a secret London institution for the last 25 years and is still going strong.

IDEA

French food isn’t exactly a novelty in London, but finding an un-fussy, un-pretentious place with good food is. Le Garrick is all this and more. It’s a family-run bistro, brasserie and bar serving traditional French food in an authentic atmosphere.

LOCATION

Situated on the corner of Floral Street and Garrick Street, Le Garrick is a little corner of France in London. The restaurant is in the heart of London’s theatre district and is a favourite haunt for the theatre crowd.  A five minute walk from both Covent Garden and Leicester square stations, this restaurant is ideal for after work and pre-theatre dining.

THE WELCOME

The attitude to dining at Le Garrick is that it should be experienced and savoured. They want to make their guests feel like they are part of the family and this is certainly something they achieve with ease.

The staff here create a warm sense of belonging from the moment you arrive, right through to the moment you say au revoir. Watching the waiters whizz between the tables and jovially talk with each guest makes you feel welcomed and that dining here is a good choice. Moreover, the knowledgeable staff (who all seem to be French) seem genuinely proud and excited of the restaurants’ classic French Menu.

STYLE & AMBIANCE

Le Garrick has an authentic olde-worlde appeal. Imagine that you are somewhere in France and have just walked into a Bistro that’s so continental you have a ‘so this is how it feels to be French’ moment – this is Le Garrick.

Well-worn tables and chairs, dim lighting and exposed brick walls all add to the restaurant’s rustic charm. Old and new posters and flyers of stage productions hang on the walls, nodding to the restaurants location in the heart of the theatre district.  On the ground floor you can enjoy the sights and sounds of Covent Garden and on warm evenings you can even eat al fresco, sitting outside on tables perched at the corner of the street. Downstairs in the depths of the restaurant, cosy candlelit alcoves create a more intimate and romantic setting for guests. Le Garrick is a restaurant of many atmospheres – it’s vibrant and bustling, friendly yet easy-going, romantic yet relaxed.

FOOD & DRINK

Ask anyone to list the top ten things they’d expect to find at a classic French restaurant and we bet you’ll find them at Le Garrick. Remaining true to its French roots, the restaurant takes its culinary cues from one of the owner’s upbringing in Toulouse, Burgundy and the Basque country, resulting in timeless dishes and preparations of classic French dishes.

On our visit, we enjoyed some tasty escargots (how ridiculously French of us) braised in garlic and white wine. These slimy guys are some of the best we’ve had anywhere. We also tried their melt-in-the-mouth foie gras which was just as it should be – rich, buttery and delicate.

If you go to Le Garrick you must experience their pièce de résistance ‘Cassolette De Calamars au Piment D’Espelette’ – in other words pan seared calamari served in a creamy, spicy sauce with coriander, chilli and ginger –  we bet you’ll be asking for extra bread to mop up every last saucy drop.

For the main event, Canard à l’Orange is a duck dish that definitely delights. The rich orange sauce brings out the succulence of the flavoursome roast duck – its sooooooo good. Another winner is the Cassoulet De Toulouse. This rich and warming one pot wonder is a hearty dish of different meats served on a bed of white lingot beans- it’s traditional, tasty and a must try.

Other popular French creations that look equally as delicious include moules marinere and the beef bourguigon. Make sure that you save room and indulge in some of their fantastic desserts. The delightful, gooey chocolate fondant is out of this world, as is their tangy tarte au citron.

The bill arrives with a complimentary shot of liquor, which certainly beats the hell out of chocolate mints! A la votre!

IT’S ALL IN THE BUTTER

Just a word of caution, if you suffer from any pre-existing cholesterol problems then be aware that the French are known for their rich and not-always-low-fat dishes. And in true French style, the chefs at Le Garrick aren’t afraid to put a little (or should we say a lot) of butter in their dishes. Not that we’re complaining as butter and all that other heavy creamy stuff is the key to their flavoursome, rich and oh so delicious dishes, we just suggest to do some exercise after you’ve eaten here.

WHY GO?

If you’re having dinner with friends from out of town and want to impress them with a great food, Le Garrick is the perfect restaurant. If you’re going on a dinner date with your lover, this is the place. If want a catch up with friends, come here.  Cosy and charming, Le Garrick is perfect for nearly every occasion, bringing people together with its friendly atmosphere and fine French food.

Bon Appétit!

4 SURPRISING BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage provides more than superficial benefits. Even though most people think of getting a massage for the relaxation benefits that it provides, there are also plenty of deeper physical benefits that your body receives from a professional massage therapist. For example, massage can help reduce stress levels and blood pressure while promoting increased blood flow throughout the body. It can even help you sleep better, resulting in less pain during the day.

Continue reading to learn about just a few of the many deeper benefits of massage. Then consider getting one so that you can reap these benefits and feel better too.

Get Better Sleep

When you sleep, your body is able to slow down and begin to regenerate. Therefore, those who have difficulty sleeping or who are unable to get into a deep sleep for very long do not experience these benefits. But a massage can help.

After getting a treatment with a professional massage therapist, your body will be able to spend additional time in the deep sleep phase, which is restorative to the body. A half-hour massage a few times a week can even help fibromyalgia sufferers sleep roughly one hour longer than they typically would, allowing the body to heal while reducing pain.

Reduce High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is a serious condition, but it is one that you might be able to control with diet and lifestyle changes. Studies have also shown that you can reduce your blood pressure if you suffer from hypertension if you get a deep tissue massage that lasts anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes.

In addition to reducing blood pressure levels, this type of massage also reduces the level of stress hormone in your body, allowing your heart rate to regulate while releasing oxytocin and serotonin, which will make you feel at ease and boost your mood.

Boost Your Immune System’s Strength

Higher cortisol levels cause lower levels of natural killer cells that the immune system uses to combat a variety of illnesses. These killer cells target everything from viruses and bacteria, to cancer, so they’re the front line of defence of your immune system. But getting a massage several times a week helps the body become stronger. Serotonin, dopamine, lymphocytes, and natural killer cells increase, while depression and hostility will decrease.

Release Tension in the Muscles and Improve Flexibility

When your muscles are tense and tight as a result of stress or long hours exhibiting poor posture while sitting at a desk, they will become less flexible. In addition to causing pain, this also reduces your range of motion. But massage can undo some of this damage, especially if you get a massage regularly. Some forms of massage can be more effective than others, such as those that incorporate the use of hot stones that further reduce tightness and promote blood flow.

Choosing The Right Type Of Massage for Your Needs

Different massage techniques offer unique advantages for your wellbeing. The benefits of Swedish massage, for instance, include gentle, flowing strokes that are particularly effective at reducing muscle tension and promoting overall relaxation. Deep tissue massage, as mentioned earlier, targets chronic muscle problems and helps lower blood pressure. Sports massage can help athletes prevent injuries and improve performance, while Thai massage combines stretching with pressure points to enhance flexibility and energy flow.

Your massage therapist can help you select the best technique based on your specific needs, whether you’re looking to relieve chronic pain, reduce anxiety, or simply unwind after a stressful week. Some people even combine different massage styles in their wellness routine to maximise the therapeutic effects.

4 IDEAL REASONS WHY RUNNING PROMOTES HEALTHY SKIN

0

woman-jogger-jogging-sport-medium

You know you should exercise in order to maintain health and for many other reasons. But you may not realize that running can actually help you obtain the healthy skin you’ve always wanted to have. There are many different ways in which running can help your skin. Here are just a few.

The Healthy Glow

When you get your heart pumping during a good run, your skin gets fresh oxygenated blood. That gives you a nice, healthy glow right after you are done working out. The more often you run, the longer the glow lasts.

Reduced Wrinkles

Running has a way of relieving the stresses of everyday life. You will have a healthy level of cortisol from your regular work outs and that helps cut back on skin breakouts and other unwanted skin issues. Cortisol also stimulates collagen growth, which helps keep the skin from wrinkling and sagging.

Relives Acne

Working out boosts circulation and that nourishes the skin. This helps to draw toxins out of the body as you sweat, which also cleans the pores and rids of congestion. Working out can even correct hormonal imbalances that sometimes cause acne in adults. When you run on a regular basis, you could very well see your acne improve or disappear completely as a result.

Other Beauty Health

Not only will your skin show improvements when you run, but you will also notice your hair will be stronger and healthier. The flow of blood and nutrients your skin receives also happens to your hair follicles. This will promote growth. As you lower your stress levels, your hair will be less brittle and less will fall out.

Any type of work out can help you with healthy skin, but running definitely improves circulation and reduces stress. It is also good for the heart, the body and overall health. If you haven’t run before, start with slow runs for a short amount of time and work your way up to a thirty-minute run at a quicker pace. Maybe, you will eventually run in a marathon, such as the New Jersey Half Marathon . You will see the health results pile up as you add to your running routine.

6 IDEAL WAYS TO MAKE WORK MORE FUN

Going to work should be fun, shouldn’t it? Yes of course there are decisions to be made, budgets to look grave about, deadlines to meet, and often the message we need to communicate is important and serious. But for creativity to flourish, and as a way of coping with the stresses associated with a high-pressured environment, isn’t it time to make work more fun? Naomi Cain of Source, creative recruitment specialists in London, shares some creative ideas for how to make work more fun on a day to day basis, which will stimulate creativity and improve morale.

The Advantages When You Make Work More Fun

None of us want to work in a dour and miserable environment, but are there are any tangible benefits to making work more fun? The good news is yes; we can have fun at work and enjoy benefits such as increased profitability and staff loyalty. By making work more fun, not only will you be greeted with happy, smiley faces every morning; your agency will also reap the rewards.

  • One key benefit to our industry is that fun stimulates creativity. Fun activities lessen inhibitions and increases confidence, allowing employees to share ideas without worrying that they may be perceived as silly by others. The knock on effect of stimulating creativity is that productivity increases and so does profitability.
  • Another benefit to employers is that making work fun boosts morale and relieves stress. Laughter reduces the levels of hormones that create stress, lowers blood pressure and heart rate, and boosts cardiovascular fitness. Going that extra mile to make work more fun, makes employees feel appreciated, generates loyalty and increases productivity. Fun will help you retain and attract top talent to your agency and reduce turnover costs.

How to Make Work More Fun

Many of the agencies we work with have an ethos of making work fun. In our experience it’s most successful when applied across an agency’s culture. Not just a one-off away day or at the annual Christmas party, but throughout the year, in small ways as well as big gestures. Remember that not everyone will find your idea of fun; fun. While a team building session to make ice-cream may appeal to the sweet-toothed amongst us, it might not tick the lactose intolerant box! If in doubt, ask your employees what would make their working lives more fun. To get you started, here are a few ideas you could introduce at your agency:

Communal Lunches

Getting everyone together to share food is a great way to relieve stress and boost morale. Eating together gives staff the opportunity to get to know each other, particularly those people who don’t come in regular contact with one another. Not only are you feeding your employees, ensuring they have fuel to work later on, but you are also team building at the same time.

Games Room

Agency Karmarama have footy tables, a popcorn machine and ping pong in their reception area. Back in September they held their 10th annual Karmarama Open Ping Pong tourney, with £500 up for grabs. Having a games area provides staff with the opportunity to break up their day with light relief, as well as giving your agency a focus for organised games nights and inter-department competitions.

Interior Décor

Most London agencies have pretty impressive premises, certainly the client areas. Does this carry through to those corners that clients don’t get to see? An uninspiring studio is not going to be a hive of creativity. Fortunately some agencies do take their employees environment seriously, seriously fun! Take Google for example, whose London offices boast a double decker bus, bumper car meeting rooms, and who allowed their engineering department to vote on their own space; hence the Sci-Fi décor.

Happy Hour and Nights Out

Here at Source we’ve been known to enjoy a few glasses of orange juice on a Friday night. Happy Hour is an institution in some agencies and you can see why; it’s the perfect way to unwind and de-stress at the end of a busy week. However, it’s not for everyone. Fun activities should be voluntary, some employees may just want to get home for the weekend, rather than start it partying with you. This is OK; find something they want to do another time.

Classes and activities

Yoga, spinning and boxing classes? Jamming in your own agency recording studio? Or a beer tasting session? Group activities are great for encouraging co-operation and team building. Lots of people join group exercise classes with a bunch of strangers, so why not give staff a perk such as a free class, and reap the benefits of this shared experience?

Away Days

One-off days out, whether jollies to the seaside or team building activities such as Blind Landrover Driving, will give your agency a boost once in a while. However in isolation they do not have long lasting effects. Whilst staff may look forward to the annual Christmas party, it’s not enough to keep them engaged for the rest of the year. This is why some companies’ attempts at forced frivolity backfire so spectacularly; employees are not used to having fun at work. They drink too much, they embarrass themselves and no one has the skills to deal with the aftermath.

So do you have fun at work? As an employee are you more likely to stay with an agency that has a fun work ethic over an agency offering more money but less fun? Employers, do you provide your staff with opportunities to have fun, what works for you?

Source provides recruitment services for employers and jobseekers in the creative sectors in London, primarily serving advertising and creative agencies.
