7 IDEAL WAYS TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE RIGHT NOW

Due to COVID’s unstoppable march and its effect on business, trade and, ultimately, employment, many are looking for new ways to earn money safely from home. For all its faults, the internet has been a blessing during this turbulent time, offering the chance to connect, socialise and stay entertained from the sofa or hastily arranged home office set up. If you’re stationed at the latter, wondering how to earn a few extra pounds on the side, then read on; here are 7 IDEAL ways to make money online right now.

AFFILIATE MARKETING

As an affiliate marketer, a company will engage you to promote their products or services via your website or blog (if you don’t have one, you might want to skip to the next page). Thus, it revolves around creating intriguing content for the prospective market, with the hope of catching the attention of both companies and clients.

Consequently, you include links that direct potential buyers to purchase from your client. With an affiliate data collection tool from a simple, streamlined platform like strackr.com, you can increase your revenue by understanding the true value of your affiliate data. Based on this information, you can identify ways to improve your program to make it more effective and lucrative. Via this avenue, creating a credible brand comes first, as potential buyers want someone who they trust to vouch for a product.

SELL OLD CLOTHES ONLINE

Plenty of us have more clothes than they need, with old items taking up prime wardrobe real estate whilst simultaneously gathering dust; not a sustainable situation, to be frank, and one which could earn you some extra spending money if you set about remedying it today.

So, why not sell on some of your clothes? There are plenty of different online outlets that you can use such as eBay, Depop or ASOS Marketplace, and branded clothes in a good condition could make a fair amount of money. What’s more, you’ll be contributing to a positive, circular fashion movement rather than adding to demand for new items, which in turn harms our planet.

FREELANCE WRITING

If you consider yourself a bit of a wordsmith and can express your thoughts succinctly then, firstly, would you like a job on IDEAL? If not, you could consider applying for a freelance writing job online to fill the hours and coffers in the months ahead.

Writing is a nice side gig because you can pick and choose topic niches that would be your Mastermind specialist subject and simply let the words flow. Of course, it’s not as simple as that; you’ll have to meet the deadlines and a word limit set by your client, but as a convenient, accessible job to do from home, content writing is a smart move.

The goal is to write excellent content that will glue your readers to the screens asking for more. Make it fun and engaging, first and foremost.

PAID SURVEYS

Take paid surveys are another way to earn some pocket money online. For many companies, your feedback on their products and services is invaluable, which is why some well-known brands pay money to simply hear your thoughts. The surveys can range across several topics, mainly concerning consumer behaviour and your experiences with products and services. The more surveys you take, on sites such as univox community surveys, the more money you make.

Though this kind of work won’t generate you a dependable income, or enough money to live on, it’s a welcome top-up during a difficult time. It’s also important to note that often, the companies involved will pay you with vouchers, gift cards and discounts for high street shops. Now, which website’s paying in toilet roll and pasta?

If you’re interested in finding out more, check out our tips on how to make the most out of paid online surveys, to get a more detailed lowdown.

TEACH ONLINE

When teaching online, it is the same as physical teaching; only the mode of interaction differs. This isn’t only about academic subjects; you can share your wealth on knowledge on a whole range of subjects, from cooking or playing an instrument, to art and design or even painting.

There are many online tutoring platforms out there which you can sign up to, with Tutorhub, e4s and Tutorful three of the most popular in the UK. You’ll need the requisite qualifications and a detailed knowledge of the subject in questions, be it Maths, English or something more esoteric, but once you’re signed up, it’s as easy as firing up your webcam and educating.

UTILISE YOUR WEBSITE

Should you own a website which you have put effort into building and marketing, then there are a few advertising possibilities available to you. You can incorporate email marketing and also advocate for your product or service. You can also use it as an advertising space for other brands, for instance, through Google AdSense.

CREATE INFORMATIONAL VIDEOS

Many online users want a fast and easy way to grasp information online at the tip of their fingers; kinda why we used to turn to the internet, right? An easy way to captivate people is by creating such informational videos. For instance, if you want to capitalize on the cooking and healthy living niche, find keywords that people will mostly search for online. It can include how to bake a vegan cake, how to grill without an oven, or the best recipes containing superfoods. Once your informational videos have gained some traction online, there might be advertising opportunities available to you.

You can also work on creating stock footage and selling them to the highest bidder. In such a scenario, you take amazing shots that aptly capture the moment at that time. Consequently, for a third party to use such an image, they pay you to acquire rights.

8 CONSIDERATIONS IF YOU’RE THINKING ABOUT ADOPTING A DOG

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London has seen a huge surge in interest recently resulting in the rehoming of more cats and dogs than ever.  At the same time, there’s also been a worrying amount of pet’s being abandoned, with people realising that they are no longer able to afford them because of financial difficulties and the recession we’ve found ourselves in due to this year’s events.

That said, having a dog in your life is a special thing that can bring so much joy and love. They shower you with love, loyalty, adoration, and provide you with comfort when you’re down. Whether you are living on your own, or you have a family complete with kids, dogs can bring joy to your home.

But for all the amazing things that dogs can bring into your life, there are also issues to consider, or at least, responsibilities that you need to be aware of in advance and be willing to embrace. That’s why it’s so important to do your research and really learn all there is about dog ownership before you take that leap. The last thing anyone wants to do is adopt a dog and then fail to provide all that they need. So, with that said, here are 8 considerations if you’re thinking about adopting a dog.

ADOPTING A DOG IS A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

The Dogs Trust have sounded a note of caution, and temporarily rebranded their famous slogan to ‘A dog is for life, not just for lockdown’. Indeed, the first thing to understand about adopting a dog is that this will be a long-term commitment. This is most pressing if you’re adopting a puppy.

Breed dependent, of course, but the average lifespan of a dog is between 11 and 13 years. That’s a pretty big commitment and you really need to think about where your life is right now, and what sort of course it will take for the next decade. Will a dog continue to fit into your lifestyle?

THE BREED MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE

It’s also very important to discuss breeds. As a first-time dog owner, it can be really easy to be swayed by which dog ‘looks cute’ and nothing else. Let’s face it, most of them have faces you simply can’t say no to!

But here’s the problem – basing your decision on the cuteness level of the dog can lead to serious issues. Breed truly matters in order to find the right fit for your lifestyle.

For example, maybe you’re the type that likes to be able to cuddle with your dog, have them lay on your lap or curl up on the foot of your bed, and really have that companion. Well, there are certain breeds that are more prone to that personality type. Then again, maybe you’re looking for an active dog that you can bring with you on hiking treks, swimming at the lake, taking part in sports like fly disc, and more. Obviously, that will be a different kind of breed right there.

Let’s also point out that breed will determine the size of the dog too, which is something that should be a huge consideration. The bigger the dog, the more space it will need indoors and outdoors, so you need to be mindful of that. For example, if you live in an apartment with no access to a yard, having a large German Shepherd probably wouldn’t be ideal.

THE COST OF OWNERSHIP

Cost should also be something you figure into the mix, too, as owning a dog isn’t free. Sure, there is the initial cost to adopt the dog, but then there are all the costs that follow. You’ll be dealing with vet bills (annual check-up plus any other appointment), yearly vaccinations, the cost of dog food, supplies (a crate, dog bed, toys, leash, and so forth), and should you decide to have the dog spayed or neutered in their first year, that’s an additional cost.

Typically, the larger the dog is, the more they cost in terms of ownership. It just makes sense – they will eat more food, their medications tend to cost more because they need a larger volume/quantity, surgery can be more for a large breed dog, and so forth.

IS YOUR HOME AND GARDEN DOG FRIENDLY?

Then there is your actual home and outdoor space – is it dog friendly? The last thing you want to do is bring a dog home to an environment that isn’t safe for one. For example, having a yard with no fence can be a real safety concern. What’s to stop the dog from running out onto the road or running away? You may need to put them on a lead in the garden or build a fence.

In terms of the interior of your house, again, you need to think in terms of safety and comfort for the dog. There should be nothing within their reach that would be dangerous or poisonous to them. You are almost thinking in terms of a toddler. How would you toddler proof your house? Many of those same steps can be taken for a dog.

Also, if you have anything of value or particular importance, you may want to temporarily store it out of reach while the new dog is getting used to its surroundings and training/housebreaking is happening.

KEEPING YOUR DOG HEALTHY THROUGHOUT ITS LIFE

It’s also vital that you’re prepared for the many steps that keep your dog healthy throughout its life. This includes such things as visiting the vet regularly, maintaining a healthy body weight, staying active, feeding them a good quality of food, and using supplements to make up for those areas they may be lacking in when it comes to proper nutrition.

If you’re looking to include a daily supplement into your dog’s routine, you want to be sure you pick a reputable company that uses good quality ingredients such as YuMOVE, found at yumove.co.uk, who specialises in joint supplements which can be given to dogs of all ages. These supplements help to support joint mobility and allow the dog to stay active and comfortable. There are a number of different formulas to choose from so that you can cater to your dog’s specific age and needs.

ARE YOU PREPARED FOR TRAINING AND HOUSEBREAKING THE DOG?

A big question to ask yourself is if you’re ready for the training that will accompany any dog regardless of age or breed. Even if you’re not adopting a puppy and the dog is already housebroken, there will still be training needed on your part.

There are a few ways you can make this process a little smoother such as taking your pup to dog obedience training sessions, hiring a private trainer, and investing in some dog training books to go over the basics. All of these will prove beneficial in the long run.

As for housebreaking the dog, most trainers and experts agree that crate training is the safest and most effective method to use.

WHAT WILL YOUR DOG DO WHEN YOU AREN’T HOME?

It doesn’t matter if you work at home or outside the home – there will be days when you simply aren’t at home. Maybe you’ve stepped out to do the food shopping, visit friends for a few hours, or for a night on the town. What will you do with your dog? This is when training and housebreaking will come in handy. You may also need to deal with separation anxiety, which is a common issue with a huge variety of breeds.

CONSIDER FOSTERING FIRST

Many animal shelters rely on doggy fosterers to provide temporary shelter homes for animals in their care.  Instead of taking that big step into dow ownership, consider fostering a dog first. Not only will you be able to see if a dog is the right fit for you, you’ll be helping a poor pup recover from neglect, abuse, illness or injury.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Before you go rushing into an adoption process, it’s well worth it to read up on all things dog-related and what it’s truly like to have one in your life.

4 EXERCISES YOU SHOULD DO TO BUILD ARM MUSCLES HOLISTICALLY

Two tickets to the gun show, madam? Well, perhaps not until you’ve reached the end of this article…

If you’re starting on a program which focuses on muscle building and those elusive, revered ‘gains’, we’re sure that bigger biceps are a motivating factor. Among the different muscle groups, the biceps are the ones that seem to be prioritised, aesthetically, at least.

But as bodybuilders, gym bunnies and exercise enthusiasts will all attest, focusing too heavily on what is, actually, a relatively small muscle, is a rookie error. In fact, for those looking to get bigger arms, it’s just as important to give attention to the triceps (a larger muscle than the biceps with more potential for growth) and the brachialis, which runs under the bicep. This holistic approach to building muscle will result in greater strength and a fuller, more realised appearance.

And that’s why you’re here, right? With that in mind, here are 4 exercises you should do to build arm muscles holistically.

BARBELL BENCH PRESS

The bench press has long been one of the most popular and important basic exercises for the upper body, and is the focal point for so many’s gym routine.

No matter which gym you attend, in what part of the world, there will always be an out of proportion person grunting on the bench. That’s not to dismiss the bench press’ effectiveness; each time you perform this type of exercise, you’re strengthening multiple muscles at the same time.

Though much of the focus falls on the chest here, the barbell bench press can also target your biceps when done properly, as well as your back, neck, and even your core. For an all-encompassing strength-based exercise, it can’t be beat.

BARBELL BICEP CURL

Should you be starting out on your bicep building journey, using a barbell (rather than dumbbells) for bicep curls is a smart move, since it provides more stability and encourages you to learn and hone better form. Once you’ve mastered this exercise, and gotten used to the correct posture required to avoid back injury, then you can move onto single and double dumbbell routines.

PULL-UPS

Pull-ups are a relatively simple exercise that can help you increase your body’s overall muscle mass, with a particular focus on the arms. Pull-ups are done by bending the elbows and making a crunch motion while holding on to a bar, harnessing the power of callisthenics to help you build strength, not only in the arms, but also in your core, back and shoulders.

Should you be intending to work on your arm muscles at home, then there are decent, durable pull up bars available online for around the £50 mark, which can be attached to the insides of your door frame.

To perform a pull-up, you need to grasp onto the bar and pull yourself up to the starting position. Make sure to hold the position for a few seconds before you slowly lower back down. To get the most out of this workout, you should lower yourself as gradually as possible, and explode back up until your chin is level (or better yet, above) where your hands hold the bar.

DIAMOND PUSH-UP

A wonderful way to build up the triceps and brachialis, this one. With a diamond push-up, you’ll begin in the normal push-up position. However, your thumbs and index fingers should be touching their respective counterparts, forming a ‘diamond’ shape beneath your face.

As you lower yourself down with each repetition, the aim is to use your hands to bring your body’s centre back up, keeping your back straight, and hold it there for a few seconds. As you bring your body back up to its original position, repeat the whole process until you reach your maximum repetitions for a set.

As a general rule of thumb, according to Men’s Health, beginners should ‘’take the number of perfect pushups you can complete, and divide that in half. Then perform five sets of that number of pushups, resting 60 seconds between each set’’.

Diamond push ups aren’t only useful for building chest and arm strength. Doing them regularly can also help you achieve and maintain proper posture, improve your coordination and balance. and even lower heart disease risk, especially in men. But for the purposes of today, they’re particularly awesome at carving your triceps!

BEGINNER’S TIPS

If you’re new to muscle building, there are a few things that you can do to help you get started and perform these essential exercises correctly. Firstly, it’s vital you eat the right kinds of food to boost your energy levels and feed your muscles for growth. Secondly, you should always take the time to warm up before a workout by doing some light stretches exercises. Not doing so, and you run the risk of injury. Remember, a little soreness is okay, but if you feel pain, consider it a warning sign to stop. Check out our article on good versus bad pain explained for more!

Finally, remember that without regular work, building muscle isn’t sustainable; you need to be committed to this thing, and in it for the long haul, if you’re to see results. Good luck!

7 IDEAL REASONS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER GETTING A PET

As we shut our doors once again to other humans due to tightening government restrictions on socialising, the pandemic has prompted people, conversely, to open them up for our furry, four legged friends instead. Indeed, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London has seen a huge surge in interest recently, resulting in the rehoming of 86 dogs and 69 cats, which is a marked increase of over 100% from last year’s adoptions.

It’s no surprise that people are seeking companionship, especially those shielding, self-isolating and living alone. That said, the Dogs Trust have sounded a note of caution, and temporarily rebranded their famous slogan to ‘A dog is for life, not just for lockdown’.

While we don’t yet know what ‘the new normal’ will look like, there are concerns that pets will have to be rehomed later down the line when owners lose their enthusiasm. To help you contemplate the big decisions lying ahead when getting in a pet, but falling firmly on the side of positivity, here are our 7 IDEAL reasons why you should consider getting a pet.

YOU CAN DO A GOOD DEED

While there’s been a surge in demand for pets, there’s also been a worrying amount of pet’s being abandoned, with people realising that they are no longer able to afford them because of the deepening recession. This summer, the RSPCA reported that they have seen more abandoned animals since the start of lockdown – averaging around 40 a day. Adopting an abandoned animal means that you’ll be giving it a new home, a second chance, and a much better life.

PETS ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBILITY

Having a pet is a great way of keeping teaching children (or perhaps even yourself) accountability and nurturing empathy. You’ll have to pet-proof the house, take them to the vet for vaccinations, and consider what you’ll be feeding them, each and every day.

If you’re really keen to go that extra mile in your care, then you might even want to opt for personalised dog food, tailored to suit your animal’s needs and tastes, and the most efficient way to get maximum, tailormade nutrition into their diet.

You’ll also need to take out insurance to protect them, should they need vet treatment, so it’s important to look at what you can expect from Pets Best and other insurance providers, when making this important purchase to ensure you get the coverage you are looking for. Such decisions can foster a sense of compassion and care in the owner which will last a lifetime.

PETS KEEP YOU ACTIVE

Most pets require some form of physical activity in order for them to lead a healthy life. Sometimes, you’ll have to join them, which ends up being beneficial for both your health!

Even something as simple as playing with your pets for a few minutes each day can increase your levels of daily exercise. Owning a dog will most definitely get you up and moving, since dogs are highly energetic animals and you’ll likely have to take yours for a walk daily. You’ll easily be able to reach your daily step target if you have a canine companion keeping you on your toes, that’s for sure.

Indeed, various studies show that owning a pet can improve physical health. Having a pet can lower your blood pressure, lessen your chances of getting a heart condition, and even boost your immune system.

REDUCED STRESS

We could all use a dose of daily stress relief right now, with a Global Pandemic, political uncertainty and civil unrest all raging beyond the four walls of home. Luckily, pets can help ease your stress, with research consistently indicating that pets reduce the levels of hormones, chiefly cortisol, that can cause stress and anxiety. Owning a pet can even alleviate depression, according to experts, with the companionship they offer also great for those suffering from isolation or loneliness.

ADDED PROTECTION

Having a pet might just make you sleep a bit easier at night. Dogs can act as a guard against potential danger, and even other pets might be able to alert you if there is cause for alarm. Even if their burglar alarm tendencies aren’t switched on, pets can act as a simple deterrent against intrusion or trespass.

YOU’LL BE LESS LONELY

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that being stuck in your house for extended periods of time with only yourself for company can put a strain on your mental wellbeing. Pets are a great way of ensuring that your house will never be empty, and you’ll always have a companion to bounce ideas off and snuggle up with. There’s a reason that dogs are known as ‘man’s best friend’, after all.

PETS BOOST YOUR SOCIAL LIFE

While this might sound a bit far-fetched, it’s true. Owning a pet will increase your chances of social interaction and lead to a more active social life in general, ideal for those who have recently relocated and are looking to meet new people.

Since so many people have pets, and plenty of time is spent outside walking them, the chances are good that you’ll find common ground with strangers, and always have something interesting to talk about in conversations, should awkward silences fall.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Owning a pet has brought joy to the lives of so many. Though having one brings many benefits, it’s vital you first consider if you’re capable of giving a new pet the care it deserves. For beginners, here are 6 IDEAL tips on caring for your pet during lockdown. Do check it out.

5 TIPS FOR STAYING SMOKE FREE DURING LOCKDOWN

Call it what you like; a circuit breaker, lockdown, or a tiered approach, but what is certain is that we’re all going to be spending a significant amount of time at home in the coming months. Exacerbated by the stress of this topsy turvy time and the onset of the colder, darker seasons, the temptation is strong to return to old crutches and vices to help tackle the turbulence that lies ahead.

Given the likely higher COVID-19 risks for smokers, in particular, now more than ever before, it’s important to quit or remain smoke free for the months and hopefully years ahead. With this in mind, here are 5 tips for staying smoke free during lockdown.

KEEP BUSY

The devil makes work for idle fore and middle fingers, and with many of us having more time on our hands than usual, the urge to chain smoke when boredom strikes has been well documented. When you feel the urge building or you’re aware that a trigger lurks just around the corner (say, the clock striking 5pm on a Friday or a particularly stressful Zoom meeting finishing), it’s vital that you keep yourself busy to counteract the urge to light up.

You could take yourself for a walk or jog, watch an episode of your favourite program, do some baking or phone a friend…it’s not the activity which matters, but rather, the keeping busy doing something fresh and wholesome.

TRY ALTERNATIVES

Trying to stay ‘smober’ – defined by Urban Dictionary as “the act of being nicotine free and no longer smoking; like sober for an alcoholic, smober defines you as being a recovering nicotine addict’’ – totally cold turkey can be tough.

Interestingly, researchers from the university of East Anglia suggest vaping to stay smoke free under lockdown. Dr Notley, who leads the Addiction Research Group at UEA’s Norwich Medical School and researches tobacco smoking cessation and electronic cigarette use (vaping), says “Since completely switching from smoking to vaping improves cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, smokers who switch to vaping might be expected to have a better prognosis if infected by COVID-19”.

She also notes that it is “concerning that vape shops have closed during the current societal lockdown situation. People who have stopped smoking and switched to vaping can still access the stop smoking service for support, and can still purchase e liquid and vaping consumables online”.

However, you should be aware that vaping is not entirely risk-free, and the fluids still contain harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke, although at lower levels. Other nicotine replacements are effective, and more medically approved too. These include gum, nasal spray, lozenges or an inhaler.

SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP

Aside from those alternatives we mentioned, professional help is also available, either for free or at a low cost. The NHS offers a whole range of dedicated services designed to help you stop smoking which you should check out, including one-to-one and group ‘stop smoking’ sessions, which involve discussion and education about the tools available to you to quit.

You can also contact the free Smokefree National Helpline on 0300 123 1044 in England (0800 84 84 84 for Scotland and 0800 085 2219 for Wales) for a chat and advice on quitting and remaining smoke free.

USE NATURAL STRESS RELIEF TECHNIQUES

Many people labour under the misapprehension that smoking acts as a long term stress reliever, but this simply isn’t the case. In fact, in many instances, it can increase instances of stress.

Should you turn to cigarettes when you need to keep stress under control, rest assured that there are more wholesome ways to keep calm:

  • Breathing exercises: A simple but highly effective tool for reducing stress and anxiety is our breath. Conscious breathing can be hugely effective in helping you to keep calm in a crisis. Or even, simply, in a moment of unattributable stress.
  • Regular exercise: Helps to improve your mood, reduce stress, boost energy, and improve self-esteem. Physical activity is absolutely critical to emotional wellbeing. In fact, exercise may even be more effective in treating mental issues than medication, according to recent research.
  • Sleep more: When we suffer from stress and anxiety, our sleep can often suffer, as we lay awake tossing and turning, or light up another cigarette out of the window. Sleep can actually be a powerful antidote to stress and, in turn, your smoking habit.

Check out our tips on 5 free stress relief strategies for Winter 2020 for more.

CHERISH PROGRESS & POSITIVE CHANGE

Say it out loud so you know how it feels…’I don’t smoke’. Sounds kinda nice, doesn’t it? Embracing and cherishing a little positivity around quitting can be the push you need to keep it going. So, notice the physical changes; a better complexion, brighter teeth, breathing lighter and exercising easier…the list goes on. Go further and acknowledge the money saved; conservative estimates put the cost at £250 each month, or £3000 a year. That’s money you could divert to more wholesome, happy pursuits like a holiday (or two, or three). Result!

THE IDEAL BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL DJ

If you’re passionate about music and entertainment, then becoming a professional DJ might be the perfect career choice for you. In this job, you can combine your love of performing with music production and perhaps even get to see the world in the process.

However, many aspiring DJs don’t know where to begin when it comes to establishing themselves as a professional. After all, this career path isn’t as reliable or clean-cut as many others; it’s cutthroat and competitive, make no mistake, and only the most determined succeed. That said, with a little luck, loads of drive and of course some talent, it could be a career for you. With that in mind, here’s our IDEAL beginner’s guide to becoming a professional DJ.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

You can’t become a professional DJ without a proper DJ setup. But what exactly do you need? Well, for starters, you should have two decks for playing music. These can be either vinyl turntables for vinyl records or CDJ turntables for disc tracks.

Secondly, you will need a DJ mixer. This is what you will use to seamlessly transition from track to track whilst you’re performing. Thirdly, monitoring speakers are essential. You use these to hear what signal is being emitted by the music you’re playing. Monitoring speakers with an amplifier also boost the volume from your sound source. Finally, you should invest in some headphones. DJs use these to cue up  a song whilst the other is currently playing to the audience. If you need more information on DJ setups, follow the steps in this article.

HOW WILL YOU SPECIALISE?

Well, this depends. There are different types of DJs for different events and purposes; it’s not going to all be Guetta style superstar shows in Vegas, let’s be honest. And so, let’s break these down into digestible pieces for you.

  • Club DJ

The purpose of club DJs is to ensure everyone on the dance floor keeps moving. They often do this by using transitions, which are basically long blends between songs. What’s more, club DJs must be aware of the demographic in the establishment they’re performing in. Every night club has a different reputation and feel – your job is to make sure the music is right for the people it will attract.

  • Mobile DJ

A mobile DJ is like a freelance writer. They will take a variety of jobs from a variety of clients for different events. For example, mobile DJs might be hired for weddings or corporate events. If you want to be a successful mobile DJ, then you need to make sure your music matches the tone of the occasion. You’ll also be in charge of setting up equipment, making announcements, managing the crowd, and taking requests. This is a completely different skill set to a club DJ.

  • Radio DJ

As you might have guessed already, radio DJs perform their tracks for audiences on the radio. This job role is quite varied. You might announce the weather forecast and news updates, for instance, alongside playing music to suit the mood of the day or the radio station in question.

  • Performance DJs

Performance DJs are especially talented at mixing behind the decks, and have a vast range of knowledge regarding professional music production techniques. They can execute impressive tricks and transitions, such as cutting or scratching. Performance DJs are masters of the craft, attracting audiences because of their reputation. Their setup is basically their musical instrument.

HOW DO YOU GET WORK?

If you’re seriously considering becoming a DJ as a professional career, then you’re probably wondering how to go about getting work. Unfortunately, this isn’t very easy – particularly when you’re first starting out because you don’t have any credentials or contacts. So, here are some tips which will help you get your name out there and secure work.

  • Build an Online Presence

Every professional DJ needs to create an online profile that potential clients can contact them through. When doing so, make sure that you effectively communicate your brand, too. Explicitly state what kind of DJ you are. List what services you provide. Highlight the benefits of your business. You should also give samples to your clients – such as videos of you performing, audio of songs you have mixed, etc.

  • Become Active on Social Media

If you want to become a successful DJ in the modern era, then you really need to create your own social media accounts. The most popular include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and SoundCloud. You can also link to these pages on your professional website.

To guarantee your social media promotion is effective, you need to be consistent when producing content. This will keep your brand in other people’s minds, so they’ll think of you when they next need to hire a DJ. You should also be producing new content for your social media accounts. This could include behind-the-scenes photos of you setting things up, or a sample of the latest track you have just mixed.

Finally, try supporting other artists on these platforms. Forming a symbiotic relationship will help both of your businesses.

We hope you have found our beginner’s guide to becoming a professional DJ helpful.

TRAVEL DURING CORONAVIRUS: IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE?

0

The global pandemic has obviously brought much of our ordinary sense of what’s normal grinding to a halt. When almost the whole world was in lockdown, for a while there it seemed impossible and absurd that you could ever do something like travel ever again. However, things are shifting and there have been some changes, and travel is now a real possibility, with many people starting to do it again.

With all that in mind, how can you make sure that you are travelling safely during the covid pandemic? In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the most important tips and tricks for travelling right now, so you can ensure that you are still managing to do it, no matter how challenging it might get.

CHECK YOUR DESTINATION

Probably the most important thing you need to do is to check your destination before you travel. You are checking a few essential things here to ensure that it is safe to go there, and that you are able to do it at all. That’s the first thing you need to check: whether the destination in question is actually open to travellers at all. There are often different rules depending on where you are coming from, so you need to make sure you are on the list of acceptable countries to arrive from too.

As well as that, you need to check that the government in your own country is allowing you to travel to that destination and – importantly – that they are allowing you to return! If not, you obviously shouldn’t go, and you won’t be able to in many cases anyway. It might be that you are allowed to go, but you have to quarantine or self-isolate when you return, in which case it is a matter of deciding for yourself whether it is necessary or not. Generally, you will have to self-isolate for 21 days, so you need to consider whether this will affect your life in any particularly dramatic way, such as causing trouble with your employer.

But that’s not all you need to check about the destination before you travel. You should also make sure that you are checking the destination for its covid cases. You don’t want to put yourself or your family at risk, so it’s best to be aware of what kind of level of cases they have in that country before you go. Then it’s a case of deciding whether you are going to feel safe going there or not.

CONSIDER YOUR SITUATION

As well as checking the destination itself, it’s wise to check on your own situation before you do any travelling. You should look at your home turf to determine whether it seems safe to travel at this moment in time. Even if the official advice is saying it’s fine, you need to ensure that you feel okay going somewhere if there are a lot of cases in your area, for instance. All of this needs to be carefully considered before you travel.

You should also take great care in checking on your own health. If you have any of the symptoms of the covid-19 virus, you should not travel, and this might mean that you end up having to call off your travels just before you are due to go. That is a shame, but it’s necessary in order to help stop the spread of the virus. Be sure to keep a close eye on your health and do the right thing if you are feeling ill at all, or have any of the symptoms – these include a high fever, a continuous cough and loss of taste or smell.

If you live with someone who is at an increased risk of getting ill from the virus, you should consider not travelling, as you might bring it back to them. You need to be considerate to others above all, and ensure that you are doing everything in your power to look after their health and your own. Only when you feel it is right and it’s safe should you think about travelling anywhere, and even then only with great care.

LAST MINUTE TRAVEL

If you are keen to travel during the pandemic, a lot of the time it might be possible to do so as a last-minute venture. That’s because, as we have seen, things can change dramatically right up to the last moment, so it might make sense to try and book a holiday at the last-minute. If you are worried about costs, you need not be. With the right travel apps and websites, you can often find a great last-minute deal which is not going to put too much of a strain on your bank balance, so that’s something to bear in mind.

Plus, last-minute travel can actually be very exciting, and it is definitely something that you should think about if you are keen to try and shake things up a bit, and get some nice experiences in before the end of what has been a very difficult year for us all.

TRAVELLING SAFELY

Once you have decided that it is safe to travel, and you have booked it all in, you then need to know how to ensure that you are travelling safely while you are actually on holiday. There are a lot of things that you should consider here, and it’s a good idea to make sure that you have thought about them all in detail. Let’s take a look at some of the major concerns that you might want to bear in mind as you travel the world during the pandemic.

First of all, take great care in following all local rules and laws wherever you happen to be travelling. In order to make sure that you are doing this right, you should research the rules before you go. You should also pay attention to any authority figures asking you to follow certain rules which you might not otherwise have been aware of, if possible.

In general, make sure you are doing all of those normal covid-friendly things we are all so used to doing now: keeping a distance of two metres from other people wherever possible, wearing a face covering or mask in public and busy places, and washing your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds as frequently as you can. These simple measures will ensure that you are much less likely to put others or yourself at risk. Of course, you could consider choosing somewhere very open to travel to, so that you can reduce the risk even further.

At the same time, you might also want to think carefully about your mode of travel, to ensure that you are not putting yourself at increased risk. If it is possible to travel without too many other people, you should aim to do that, and try to avoid trains wherever possible, and planes too. Of course, that will limit your options quite dramatically.

TRAVEL LOCALLY

One of the best ways to travel at the moment is to simply go somewhere local. With so many restrictions being in place all over the world, you are going to want to consider the possibility of travelling in your local area. There are many benefits to this, the most important being that you obviously won’t be putting anyone at too great a risk, including yourself and your family. You will also be helping your local economy, and putting the environment under much less strain compared to flying around the world, both of which are important at all times, and especially now.

AIR-TRAVEL – IS IT SAFE?

One of the strange things about air travel is that it is actually not too dangerous in terms of spreading the virus. In fact, because of the way that air is circulated and filtered in airplanes, viruses don’t tend to spread that easily inside them. But with social distancing being hard to maintain on a plane, there is still some risk here which you should be aware of. And of course, being in the airports and terminals is going to be risky too.

It’s all about deciding for yourself what you think is best. You should think carefully about this before you travel, so you can make sure that you are happy with your decision, and that you feel it is ethical.

STAY VIGILANT

No matter what you decide to do, or where you decide to go, you should make sure that you are staying vigilant at all times. As long as you do that, you will be less likely to spread the virus and get it yourself, and you will be able to enjoy your travels almost as if no global pandemic existed. That’s really the best of both worlds. Remember that the priority at all times should be keeping everyone safe, and trying to avoid spreading the virus – and remember that you can be carrying it asymptomatically without even knowing it. So take care and have fun!

HOW TO MARKET YOUR NEW BUSINESS IN 5 EASY STEPS

You have the product, you have the premises, and you have the business nous. Surely, that should be enough? Well, to push things to the next level, what you need now is some top-quality marketing.

It is the part of running a company that so many overlook when starting out, assuming that customers will come naturally and your message will reach people organically. Big mistake. Instead, and right from the off, it’s so important to market your business properly so you can be on the front foot as soon as you start trading.

In 2020, digital marketing is growing and its importance can’t be overestimated, but there remains a place reserved at the top table for traditional methods such as signage and word of mouth, too. A comprehensive, holistic approach is nearly always the right one, and with that in mind, here’s how to market your new business in 5 easy steps.

MARKETING TECHNIQUES

Marketing as we know it today was born during the industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries. From the 1960s onwards, due to ever increasing choice and market saturation, marketing has been at the forefront of any successful business plan as companies compete for attention and, subsequently, custom.

Getting marketing right can take your business from a neighbourhood gem to a national product or service provider. Your first step on this road is not necessarily knowing how to market but knowing what to market…

KNOW YOUR NICHE

As a business looking to push its way to the top, you should know and cherish your niche. Whatever marketing strategy you choose, and however much money you spend choosing it, you must know exactly what it is you are marketing and how it differentiates you from your competitors. This is the gold standard in standing out from the crowd.

If your company sells the best shoes in the city because they are made from the highest quality leather, for example, are you really going to market them based on their price, their tread, and their laces? Narrowing down on exactly what it is you are marketing is key to grabbing a customer’s attention, and in this case, it is the origin and quality of the shoe’s leather which should be focused on.

Once you have settled on what it is you are going to market, it is time to begin pumping that message out to the masses.

FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS

Before setting out your marketing strategy and seeking third party advice on which path to choose next, consider your company’s and product’s strengths.

If you are a keen web developer, for instance, or are active on social media, spending money on a digital marketing campaign or advice on the subject may not be as necessary as seeking tips on more traditional methods. Conversely, if you are a confident and affable speaker in front of large groups but don’t know your Twitter from your Tik Tok, then the opposite approach would be necessary.

Using both traditional and modern marketing techniques is key to capturing consumers’ attention across the board, but you should still play to your strengths as much as possible to save on erroneous misdirection of your marketing budget.

USE SIGNAGE AND VISUAL MARKETING

You have now settled on your niche and begun to understand your own personal and business strengths. Now it is time to get noticed. In terms of traditional, visual marketing, signage cannot be topped.

If you like the sound of boosting your marketing reach every time you drive to work, then perhaps vehicle branding could be a useful tool. Having your logo and contact details wrapped onto your car, van or lorry makes you look professional and increases awareness. Signage and vehicle branding from a quality sign company can bring life to your business and help you stand out on the high street and on the road, and is a fantastic place to start in terms of improving your marketing reach in a very physical sense.

UTILISE SOCIAL MEDIA

With visual marketing in place, the next step is to be noticed online. Reading up on the benefits and methods of social media marketing is a good place to start, as it will demonstrate to you why you should commit so much time and effort to the practice.

Essentially, you want to start reaching more than just your local audience. By providing contact details, product and service information, and perhaps even some captivating content online, you should begin to attract a following, helping spread that net far, wide and not thinly. This can be used to direct customers back to your website, to your high street store, or to your phone number, depending on how you operate.

ALWAYS READY TO ADAPT

Never forget that the face of marketing is always adapting, and you must adapt with it to stay ahead, and this starts with using effective enterprise analytics to improve your marketing and get an overview of where improvement can be made in your whole business. Being left behind and stuck in old strategies will provide your competition with an opening to overtake and outperform you, and this ground is so hard to reclaim once it’s lost.

Following business journals and employing marketing agencies are good ways to remain on, if not ahead of, the curve, as well as following competitors on social media and monitoring their movements constantly. This isn’t espionage or deception, just a case of doing your due diligence. Good luck!

8 IDEAL TIPS FOR DISPOSING OF WASTE IN AN ECO-FRIENDLY MANNER

Out of sight, out of mind, as they say. And let’s face it; it’s all too easy to forget what you can’t see. But climate change and its resultant issues simply can’t be ignored any longer. In fact, we’re already seeing its impact. There should be no excuse, then, to turn a blind eye.

Three years ago it was reported that just 100 companies were responsible for 71% of climate change, and with capitalism dangerously fixated on constant growth, we expect that percentage may have risen even further since.

That said, the little person can still make a big difference and one of the simplest ways to do just that is to dispose of and process waste in an eco-friendly manner, enabling recycling where possible and preventing it from ending up in the ocean.

Indeed, according to a study in 2015, around 4.8 to 12.7 million metric tonnes of plastics are now dumped into the sea annually. These destroy marine habitats and endanger aquatic species. Simply put, sorting and recycling your waste can directly save marine life. And that’s only one of many positive outcomes which could follow a more sustainable approach globally.

With that in mind, here are 8 IDEAL tips for disposing of waste in an eco-friendly manner.

SEGREGATE YOUR WASTE

Separating your waste is the first step in any responsible recycling or reusing program. It’s generally recommended that you use three separate waste bins in your home. One for biodegradable waste (organic waste, cardboard, etc), one for non-biodegradable waste (plastics, glass, metal, etc) and the last one for hazardous waste (paint, light bulbs, etc).

As the guys at TW Services, who offer skip hire in Folkestone, tell us, this small change to your domestic disposal routine will save waste workers hours of their time later down the line. This also enables you to process and dispose of your waste by yourself; you can use your organic waste as compost and recycle the plastics. Do remember that when disposing of any hazardous waste, either go to a local recycling station or contact your local rubbish removal authority to get it collected

RECYCLE YOUR PLASTICS

Single-use plastics are one of the sustainable environment’s biggest enemies. Currently, 69 countries have banned or put some restrictions on single-use plastics. Of note, Canada is set to ban single-use plastics in 2021, while the Philippines is now holding plastic producers accountable for cleaning up the waste it’s responsible for. Promising signs, indeed, but what can you do?

It’s been reported that the global pandemic has worsened the situation. In a study conducted in June 2020, researchers estimated a monthly use of 129 billion face masks and 65 billion gloves across the globe. That is an immense amount of non-biodegradable waste.

But there is a silver lining. Almost 75% of all non-biodegradable waste can be recycled. If you are unsure of how to go about it, take the non-biodegradable waste to your local recycling station and they will sort out the rest. Recycling is one of the best ways to create a positive impact on the environment.

REUSE YOUR RUBBISH

One man’s trash might just be another man’s treasure. Before you dump your rubbish, take a hard look at what you can reuse to build something new. Upcycling will reduce the amount of waste you create, and you might be left with some really nifty, unique pieces around the home. Check out our piece on 5 IDEAL upcycling ideas for your bedroom for a healthy dose of inspiration!

MASTER THE ART OF COMPOSTING

Are you wondering what to do with all those kitchen scraps? If you can’t figure out a way to use them in your next meal, then composting is a great way to put your vegetable peels and food scraps to good use. If you have a garden, you can dig a compost pit and dump your biodegradable waste there, to be covered for a few months. If you don’t have a garden, you could ask your neighbours to take the load, emphasising that sense of community spirit which is so important to successful environmental action.

There are plenty of DIY composting ideas that require very little space. And at the end of it, you can use the compost later as free fertiliser for your garden or for the neighbourhood’s trees and flowerbeds.

ANAEROBIC DIGESTION AND CLEAN ENERGY

This process is less popular but a lot more efficient. It involves putting your organic waste in a box completely free of oxygen and adding bacteria to it. This bacteria then breaks down the waste. This process produces fertilizers as well as methane and other calorific gasses that can be harnessed to create completely clean energy.

Interestingly, Sweden is leading the anaerobic waste management movement by converting 100% of its organic waste into energy. If you have a waste-to-energy plant near you, you can drop off your organic waste with them. This could be the future, make no mistake!

MAKE A WORM BIN

So you don’t have the means for anaerobic waste disposal but want a faster process than regular composting? Then perhaps a worm bin is your perfect fit. All you need is a moderately sized bin to dump your organic waste in, and some red worms that you can easily dig up and rehouse.

Simply place the worms in with your waste, and they will rapidly break down the organic material into fertilizer. Best of all, you can reuse the worms and the bins later on. Keep the setup between 12.5°C and 25°C for best results.

ECO BRICKS AND CONSTRUCTION

To get a little more niche, you can even tightly pack plastic bottles with torn up dry plastic to create eco-bricks. These bricks are great for construction and are now being used widely across the world in sustainable building projects, providing an innovative way to build sturdy houses as the plastic has high impact resistance.

What’s more, some engineers have invented a way to compress plastic waste into a solid brick by mixing them with sand and ash, which are reportedly as strong as regular bricks. Fascinating stuff!

FEED FARM ANIMALS

If you live near a farm, then you can send them most of your organic waste, which will be turned into animal feed and in turn, efficiently disposed of. Before you start sending them waste, do check first on what the animals can consume and what they can’t. Not all organic waste can be used for feeding animals, after all.

HIRE A GARBAGE COLLECTION COMPANY

If you are short on time, space or energy to dispose of your waste in an environmentally friendly way, then hiring the professionals to do the dirty work for you is the easiest option.

Tools & Treatments For Tackling Hairline Changes Head-On

0

Hairlines, subtly framing an individual’s face, play an indispensable role in determining one’s overall appearance. As years pass, many notice shifts in their hairlines that evoke emotions. For some, it signifies the poignant reminder of fleeting youth; for others, it becomes a burgeoning source of insecurity. Yet, what truly drives these alterations? Is it merely the relentless march of time, or are specific underlying causes at play?

From advanced medical interventions to time-honoured natural remedies, here are some of the tools and treatments currently being used across the world to tackle hairline changes head-on.

Unravelling The Causes Of Hairline Changes

For many, understanding the nuances of shifting hair boundaries requires a deeper look into various contributing factors, catalysts and causes. A combination of genetics, lifestyle choices, and external factors determine the course of one’s hairline. For clarity, the discussion breaks down these vital elements.

  • The hereditary aspect – One often hears anecdotes of family members with strikingly similar hair patterns. Genetics undeniably have a hand in shaping the destiny of an individual’s hairline. If one’s close relatives, such as parents or grandparents, battled hair thinning or recession, chances are they may face similar challenges.
  • Role of hormones – Hormones, especially Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), emerge as key players in hairline evolution. When DHT levels rise, hair follicles can shrink, giving way to thinner hair strands and, ultimately, hair loss. While men often experience this occurrence more visibly, women also face it.
  • Stress and lifestyle – The demands and pressures of today’s fast-paced life leave their mark on the scalp. Prolonged stress can upset the hair’s natural growth rhythm, propelling more hairs into a premature shedding phase. Furthermore, smoking or maintaining a nutrient-deficient diet can subtly exacerbate hairline modifications.
  • Underlying medical conditions – Specific medical conditions, such as thyroid imbalances or autoimmune diseases, can instigate hair thinning or loss. Recognizing these conditions is paramount, as addressing the primary ailment paves the way for improved hair health.
  • Hairstyling, chemicals, and the environment – Every day, your hair braves assaults from many environmental factors — from UV rays and pollutants to aggressive hairstyling routines. Harsh chemical treatments, constrictive hairstyles, or frequent exposure to high heat can strain and weaken hair follicles, precipitating potential damage or breakage.

As multifaceted as the causes of hairline alterations appear, comprehending these influencers serves as a cornerstone for crafting effective strategies and interventions. In this expedition, a clear understanding becomes an invaluable asset.

Navigating The Diagnosis Process

Identifying the root cause of hairline shifts is pivotal to effective management. This process often begins with the following:

  • Categorisation – Differentiating types of hair loss helps target treatments more effectively.
  • Trichoscopy – An in-depth scalp examination reveals hair health and potential issues.
  • Consultation – Engaging with a specialist ensures a thorough understanding and an accurate diagnosis, guiding individuals to tailored interventions.

What Are The Costs Involved?

Whilst costs of treatments vary greatly in price depending on the type of treatment, the standard of clinic or salon, and the specific location – the cost of a hair transplant in Chicago might be hugely different to that in Turkey or Torquay, for instance – there are a few ballpark figures that will help you get a better understanding of the damage your purse or wallet is due.

One of the most effective treatments for hair loss is hair restoration surgery. This procedure is quite costly and time-consuming, but it delivers transformative and permanent results when done correctly. In the UK, the cost of hairline surgery typically ranges between £3,000 to £10,000. However, in some cases, the price can go up to £30,000 depending on the complexity of the procedure and the number of grafts required. For instance, a 5000 grafts hair transplant operation can cost between £10,000-£12,000.

Another treatment option is the use of medications such as minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia), which are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of hair loss. The cost of these medications can vary, but they are generally more affordable than surgical procedures. A finasteride prescription might typically cost about £40 to £60 per month, as an example.

Remember that the prices listed are for illustrative purposes only and can vary a lot depending on the place, specific case and treatment provider. It is always advisable to consult with different professionals to find the ideal and affordable plan for your specific needs.

Some Tools & Products For Hairline Maintenance

Maintaining a healthy hairline doesn’t always require dramatic interventions. Often, a few essential products and tools can make a significant difference. Here are some popular options:

  • Minoxidil – An FDA-approved topical treatment that can stimulate hair growth and slow thinning.
  • Laser hair growth devices – These tools use red light therapy to boost hair follicle activity, promoting hair growth and thickness.
  • DHT-blocking Shampoos – Formulated to combat the effects of DHT, these shampoos can play a role in preserving the hairline and reducing hair fall.
  • Biotin supplements – Biotin, a type of B vitamin, is often touted for its hair-strengthening properties. Many turn to this supplement to bolster hair health from within.
  • Derma rollers – When used on the scalp, these micro-needling tools can stimulate hair growth by increasing blood flow and promoting collagen production.

The right products and tool selection largely depend on an individual’s needs and preferences. Before incorporating any new treatment, it’s always advisable to conduct thorough research and, when appropriate, consult with a dermatologist or trichologist. Staying informed and proactive helps individuals navigate the challenges of hairline maintenance better.

The Available Medical Treatments Today

Medical advancements today offer a plethora of treatments for those dealing with hair loss and hairline changes. Here’s an overview of the notable medical interventions available:

  • Finasteride – An oral prescription medication that targets the body’s production of DHT, a hormone often linked with hair loss, especially in men. It primarily combats male pattern baldness.
  • Hair transplant surgery – This involves transplanting hair follicles from denser regions; usually the back or sides of the head, to balding or thinning areas, offering a more durable solution.
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy – Doctors process a patient’s blood to concentrate the platelets, which they inject into the scalp to stimulate hair growth.
  • Laser therapy – Low-level laser therapy aims to increase hair density without surgery or topical treatments, rejuvenating hair follicles to promote growth.
  • Scalp micro pigmentation – Scalp micro pigmentation is a tattooing technique that places tiny dots of pigment on the scalp to mimic hair follicles, creating the illusion of a denser hairline.
  • Mesotherapy – This method injects a mixture of nutrients, vitamins, and growth factors directly into the scalp. Mesotherapy aims to enhance hair follicle health and promote growth.
  • Topical corticosteroids – Healthcare professionals often use these for alopecia areata, a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles. They apply them to the scalp to suppress this immune reaction.

Consulting with a hair specialist or dermatologist is essential when contemplating medical interventions. Such guidance provides a clearer perspective on potential risks, benefits, and the most appropriate treatment options, facilitating a well-informed decision.

Try Natural Remedies & Lifestyle Changes

While medical interventions offer targeted solutions, many prefer natural remedies and lifestyle adjustments for healthier hairlines. These holistic approaches, while milder, can often complement other treatments:

  • Aloe vera – Known for its soothing properties, applying aloe vera gel to the scalp can reduce inflammation and could potentially promote healthier hair growth.
  • Scalp massage – Regularly massaging the scalp stimulates blood flow, which may encourage growth and strengthen existing hair.
  • Balanced diet – Incorporating foods rich in biotin, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins E and A could enhance hair health from within.
  • Rosemary oil – This essential oil may improve hair thickness and growth when applied topically.
  • Stress management – Chronic stress can impact hair health. Meditation, yoga, and regular exercise can mitigate stress-related hair issues.
  • Limiting heat styling – Excessive use of heat-styling tools can weaken hair. Restricting their usage or opting for lower heat settings can prevent further hair damage.
  • Staying hydrated – Proper hydration supports overall health, including that of hair follicles.

Exploring natural remedies and making mindful lifestyle changes can be foundational steps toward improved hair health. It’s always advisable to test any new therapy on a small skin patch first and, if possible, consult a healthcare professional to ensure its appropriateness.

The Bottom Line

Understanding hair health is an ongoing journey. Whether through natural remedies, medical interventions, or preventative measures, the focus should be on informed choices tailored to individual needs. Navigate the complexities of hairline changes with accurate information and a proactive approach. By doing so, individuals can effectively address their concerns and work towards maintaining or regaining the health and vitality of their hair.

NEW, USED OR LEASED CAR? THE IDEAL GUIDE TO YOUR OPTIONS

To lease or not to lease, to buy new or used, those are the questions. Though Hamlet wasn’t alive in the age of the motor vehicle, we’re sure his soliloquy would have been car focused had he been.

But these are modern times with issues and opportunities entirely unique to 2020, with last month declared the worst September in two decades for car sales, despite a plate change which usually leads to an upsurge in interest. Yikes.

That said, the need for speed (or simply, limit abiding behaviour) will always be there, with September also seeing a degree of stability returning to the UK used car and auction market. Interesting, unpredictable times are certainly ahead, but if you’re looking for a set of new wheels and aren’t sure whether you should be turning left or right out of the dealership forecourt, then read on. Whether you’re looking for a new, used or leased car, here’s our IDEAL guide to your options.

A VOLATILE MARKET

In SMMT’s most recent report into car buying and selling trends, they reported ”UK used car sales halve to 1 million as coronavirus hits Q2 demand”, though as we mentioned earlier, that does show some signs of stabilising.

Should you be feeling tentative about dipping your toes in the water when it’s so choppy, then temporarily driving leased cars may make sense to some, as it enables you to upgrade to a newer car every few months or years and ensures that any problems are covered while you drive it. Of course, in the long term, this isn’t the most financially viable option; there’ll be no equity purchased, but you know what they say…

leasing car

IF BUYING NEW, PRIORITISE A MODEL WHICH HOLDS ITS VALUE

Since they say that a new car loses nearly half of its value in its first year, and with environmental issues demanding more investments are ‘circular’, should you not be keen on the idea of leasing (more of that later) then buying a used vehicle represents a prudent move.

That immediate loss of value is a heartbreaking prospect when you’ve saved up so much money and dedicated such time towards the purchase. Brand new is a term which can only be used once, after all. If you are insistent on investing in a new model, however, it pays to be aware that there are some cars that tend to hold their value better than others.

According to an investigation by Auto Express, luxury cars generally depreciate in value most slowly. That said, the Volkswagen California and Peugeot 3008 both make the top ten in terms of strong investments, and don’t fall into the ‘luxury’ catergory. Look for cars which have a strong resale value, too; the Car Wise Group suggest that Mini, Audi, Volkswagen, Lexus and Ford command the highest price when you decide to sell them on.

BEWARE LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

A maxim true to all walks (or drives) of life, don’t you think? Love at first sight can be a spontaneous, pesky business when you’re shopping for a car. Sometimes, you get behind the wheel and it just feels right. There’s a danger here that you trust your gut instinct and make an impulsive purchase without the proper research. And in a market where prudence and parsimoniousness pays, there’s nothing worse than making a buy without thinking it through.

Not all first times fit perfectly, and some cars will only reveal their true potential after a while in your company, so explore various options, do a thorough assessment of each, and pay particular attention to factors like size, transmission, mileage, engine, equipment and features. As such, leasing prior to purchase might be a smart move, to get the feel for various cars before splashing your cash on actual, physical equity. Whether you’re considering an investment-smart VW on a short term basis, or you’re mulling over SEAT leasing deals, it pays to be cautious here.

buying new car

TAKE ME TO YOUR DEALER

Should you have decided that a used car purchase sounds like the move forward for you, then firstly, it’s time to find a dealer suitable to your needs. Coronavirus has left a surplus of cars on the lot, so you might be able to snag a discount’ right now, it’s a buyer’s market. That doesn’t spell completely good news; a volatile market can lead to both buyers and sellers exercising less diligence than normal.

With so many car sales merchants, dealers and websites out there for you to consider – some scrupulous, some less so – start by seeking out a seller who you can trust, one with a sound reputation who will be honest when doing business with you. The AA website, for instance, features thousands of used cars from a network of reputable dealers from every corner of the country. When you find the right dealer, you’re ready to begin checking out some cars and to do this thoroughly, this needs to be done face-to-face. Masks on, of course.

Do rest assured that there are many financing options available to you, should you not have the capital to put down a large, lump sum in one go. Check out our piece on finding your ideal finance option when buying a used car for more on that.

8 REASONS TO HIRE QUICK WASTERS FOR OFFICE WASTE CLEARANCE IN LONDON

Did you know that 57% of co-workers judge their colleagues based on the tidiness of their desks? The most surprising element of that statistic, we think, is the remaining 43%! Questions need to be asked.

And those ratios don’t even take into account your client’s perception of waste, and therefore, their perception of your company. We don’t think we need a survey to conclude that an office full of debris and muck isn’t going to inspire confidence in potential customers or investors. There shouldn’t be any space for ‘waste’ in your commercial facility or office, not only in terms of image but more importantly, when considering streamlining, productivity, efficiency and lessening your environmental impact.

If you’re a company which produces a lot of surplus material in the course of your output, then waste clearance should be on the top of your priority list. That doesn’t mean that you should simply skip the board meeting and head to the nearest recycling centre armed with a full rubbish bin and waste polybags in tow. That is inefficiency defined.

Instead, we’re here today to plug a particular, waste fighting force; we’re here to encourage you to hire Quick Wasters

Who are they? And why should you hire them? Well, here are 8 reasons to hire quick wasters for office waste clearance in London.

QUICK WASTERS IS A FULLY-LICENSED COMPANY

Sounds trivial, doesn’t it? So what if Quick Wasters is licensed? They are waste cleaners, and nothing could possibly go wrong even if you hired unlicensed service providers. That’s where you’re wrong.

Unlicensed services providers, simply put, aren’t legal. And when working with them, technically speaking, you could be be violating the law. Quick Wasters are licensed and registered, meaning their disposal is all above board, green-conscious in its cleaning and won’t leave your company-branded debris or classified documents floating all over London in a breath of Big Smoke.

QUICK WASTERS HAS A FLEET OF WELL-EQUIPPED VANS AND TRUCKS

Waste removers are experts in their perfectly manicured field, but they are as useless without proper equipment as are magicians without their wands.

Fortunately, Quick Wasters offer same day services. No time wasted, and no customers lost.

QUICK WASTERS OFFERS AFFORDABLE SERVICES

Okay, every other company on the block and beyond says that. Affordability is, of course, one of the key drivers in any potential client’s decision making.

What’s more, Quick Wasters offers discounts to repeat customers, translating into less waste and more savings. There are no hidden costs either; no added extras for congestion charges, parking fees, and parking fines. Now that’s 100% transparency.

7 FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A TEETH WHITENING PRODUCT

Bright, white and healthy teeth can fill you with self-confidence, leaving you feeling fantastic about yourself and wanting to smile broadly in every photograph that you get the chance to be in. If you’re tired of seeing teeth that are anything but white and bright every time you look at a photograph of yourself, then there’s no need to worry.

There are so many great teeth whitening products available today that can help you achieve the bright smile that you want and seriously boost your self-esteem. But with so many great whitening products to choose from, how can you know exactly which options are going to work best for you?

Here are some of the main factors to consider when choosing the right teeth whitening product or treatment.

STAINING SEVERITY

First of all, consider how stained your teeth actually are. Perhaps you only have a little bit of staining from drinking a cup of coffee every morning, in which case you may benefit from an over the counter whitening product like whitening strips or light-activated whitening gels.

On the other hand, if you have been a heavy smoker in the past and your teeth are seriously stained, it’s worth investing in professional whitening treatment from your dentist, which will bleach your teeth with hydrogen peroxide to restore them to their former bright, white glory. Your dentist might also want you to undergo a deep cleaning treatment with the hygienist to remove as many surface stains as possible before you undergo whitening treatment.

CONVENIENCE

Teeth whitening treatments at the dentist can be time-consuming and perhaps you simply don’t have the option of taking time off work to go and get your teeth whitened. In this case, your best bet is at-home tooth whitening strip options like Crest Whitestrips, provided by Oral-B.

Crest Whitening Strips are a safe and effective treatment that is easy to use at home to improve the colour of your teeth. You may need to use them a few times to get the desired result, so keep this in mind if you have an event coming up that you would like to have whiter teeth for.

YOUR ORAL HEALTH

Bear in mind that some home whitening products are not going to be effective on anything that isn’t your natural teeth. If you have visible fillings, crowns, caps or veneers, you might end up with some parts of your mouth that are whiter than others as a result and certainly not achieve the result that you want overall. If you have crowns on your visible teeth then it might be a better option to visit your dentist for a whitening treatment or look for an at-home product that is designed to whiten crowns as well as your natural teeth.

REPUTATION AND CREDIBILITY

Sadly, not all tooth whitening products are created equally, so it’s important to do your research and make sure that you are buying from a credible, trusted manufacturer. There are countless tooth whitening brands out there today but not all of them care about your health or safety and could end up doing more harm than good to your teeth. If a product seems way too cheap or is offering results that sound too good to be true for the price, then it’s probably not worth buying. According to specialists from Dr Tosun Dental Clinic, it’s always worth investing more into a trusted brand like Crest as, after all, this is the health and appearance of your teeth that you are investing in – and you only get one set.

TIME

Think about how much time you have to whiten your teeth. Maybe you are happy with a gradual whitening process and do not mind how long it takes as long as you achieve the desired result, or perhaps you have a significant event like your wedding on the horizon and need to ensure that you achieve a brighter smile for a certain day. If you have a certain timeframe in mind, consider how badly your teeth are stained and determine which types of products are likely to work for you. Whitening toothpaste on severe stains, for example, is unlikely to produce the results that you want in time – on the other hand, going to your dentist to have your teeth bleached white is sure to provide you with the results that you want for the exact day you need them.

COST

Another important factor to consider when choosing a teeth whitening product is how much you’re prepared to spend. Professional teeth whitening treatments from the dentist can set you back hundreds of pounds, so might not always be the best option for anybody who wants to whiten their teeth on a budget. On the other hand, you can get good tooth whitening systems and products like strips from reputable brands for around £50-£100 or even less, depending on the type of product that you go for and the results that you want. Whitening toothpaste, for example, can be picked up in your local supermarket for less than £5, though its efficacy is sometimes questioned.

MAINTENANCE

Once you’ve decided on the right type of whitening treatment for you, it’s also important to think about how you are going to maintain your new pearly whites. Allowing your teeth to get stained all over again means that you’re going to have to go through the whitening treatment over and over. Thankfully there are several things that you can do to minimise re-staining, although you should be prepared for some further discolouration in the future.

Most people who get their teeth whitened will do it more than once. Using a good whitening toothpaste from a reputable brand on a regular basis is an ideal way to maintain your results. Take particular care to use it to brush your teeth after consuming anything that could cause stains like coffee or tea.

With so many great teeth whitening products on the market, there are several factors to keep in mind before choosing the right one for you.

PARENTING THROUGH THE PANDEMIC: 5 TIPS TO HELP RELIEVE STRESS

0

…that don’t involve wine.

Parenting is a tough gig at the best of times, and given the current situation we’re all finding ourselves in, it feels even tougher than ever. Indeed, life for us all has changed dramatically of late (emphasis on the ‘drama’ for those with young kids and teenagers) and finding wholesome, holistic coping mechanisms amongst it all can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Aside from using that needle for acupuncture, here are 5 tips to help relieve stress, IDEAL for parenting through the pandemic.

GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO SLEEP

Parenthood and sleep deprivation go hand in hand. When you’re juggling a job, children and everything everyday life throws at you, sleep all too often feels like a luxury, snatched in moments when you’re lucky enough to have a moment’s downtime.

After the kids have gone to bed, instead of sleeping, it’s all too easy to stay scrolling through your phone, watching late night TV, doing extra work and trying to get those extra chores done. However, if there is one thing you should be doing, it’s prioritising its sleep.

Sleep deprivation is physically and emotionally draining and without your regular dose of the good stuff, your stress levels will skyrocket. Though it’s tough, try and forget about any non essential jobs, switch off from your screens and go out of your way to get good sleep

We’ve written an article here on 5 tips for sleeping better during uncertain times, IDEAL for improving your wellbeing with a good night’s sleep which includes no late night news, having a bath before bed and replacing that glass of wine with a cup of herbal sleep tea, which brings us to our next point…

SPEAK TO YOUR PARTNER

A recent survey found that almost half of mums, 46%, admitted that their partners were causing them more of a headache than their children! If you’re feeling stressed, then do endeavour to speak to your partner about your concerns. This isn’t a time to be suffering in silence or trying to take on too much of the work on your own.

If you’re in a two-parent household, try giving each other a set amount of time each day to have to yourselves. If sharing responsibility isn’t a realistic option right now, then there are still plenty of other ways to relieve stress…

TRY THESE RELAXATION TECHNIQUES

That study we mentioned also revealed that 72% of mums admitted to stressing out about how stressed they were – and that’s a cycle you want to avoid at all costs. Some simple relaxation techniques to put into practice include:

  • Deep Breathing: Deep breathing can be an effective way to decrease stress, as it has been scientifically proven to lower your body’s cortisol levels. As a result, it can significantly reduce feelings of stress or anxiety. What’s more, deep breathing techniques are believed to result in a temporary drop in blood pressure.
  • Yoga Exercises: Grab a yoga mat and comfortable clothing to enjoy a relaxing yoga session. The ancient practice is believed to reduce stress levels as it focuses on a combination of stretching and deep breathing techniques. It is, therefore, the perfect physical activity for those wanting to feel happier, healthier and more flexible, all in one.
  • Listen to music: Whenever you feel a little overwhelmed by an intense situation, take a break by listening to some relaxing music, as calming sounds can positively impact both your brain and your body. Gentle sounds and music, such as birdsong or classical music, can reduce cortisol in your body, which is the hormone directly linked to stress. It can also lower your blood pressure, and maybe most importantly, music is just so darn enjoyable.
  • Have a Hug: Combat stress by wrapping your arms around your kids. Hugging a loved one can increase the oxytocin levels in your body, which is the love hormone. It’s therefore believed to be beneficial for both your stress levels and heart health. Even a ten-second hug can ease depression, boost your immune system and fight infection, while a twenty-second embrace can decrease the physical effects of stress, such as an increased heart rate and high blood pressure.

MEAL TIME

As a parent, it’s all too easy to skip meals. However, doing so only leads to tiredness and stress

In fact, your emotions and sense of wellbeing are so often connected to your diet. You might be tempted to turn to fatty or sugary foods during times of stress in the name of comfort or ease, especially if you’re eating at different times to your kids, but try to avoid this. According to the BBC, ‘’eating a balanced and healthy diet is key to helping our bodies to manage the physiological changes caused by stress’’.

DON’T GUILT TRIP YOURSELF

…as it will only make you feel more stressed. Between at-home schooling, child care and working, pandemic parenting is hard. Trying to balance working from home and your kids demanding more attention is a serious business, and at times your house may feel like pandemonium.

No doubt you’re feeling guilty for occasionally being irritable and short-tempered. Just remember that you’re parenting during an unprecedented pandemic, and you’re getting through; you’ll come out the other side stronger as a family and more resilient than ever. You’re doing great!

6 IDEAL TIPS FOR SUCCESSFULLY STARTING A BUSINESS FROM HOME

What was once the dream of so many has now become something of a necessity for those looking to diversify and lay down a safety net during turbulent times. Out of choice or obligation, many more Brits are setting up home businesses and side hustles to see them through the months (and potentially even years) of uncertainty ahead.

Quite quickly, the realisation is dawning, that this #wfh thing isn’t as simple as wearing your pyjamas all day, juggling coffee and whisky, and firing off a few emails. There are deadlines to meet, bureaucracy to untangle, and self-discipline required in spades. Working for yourself can be a stressful business, of that there’s no doubt.

That said, if you are intending to go it alone, good on you! The fundamentals should already be in place; an idea, a business plan and funding. But there are other considerations which will take some of the trepidation from treading this unfamiliar path. These are those; our 6 IDEAL tips for successfully starting a business from home.

ACQUIRE A VIRTUAL OFFICE ADDRESS

All businesses need an address; a place to call home, even if it’s somewhere only in the ether. You’ll need one for purchase orders and registration with HMRC/Companies House and you’ll also need one for client communication, your Google address, your website’s contact information and more. Having a business address is crucial; it assures potential clients and customers that you exist and are genuine.

Ask yourself if you really want to be using your home address for your business? Combining your personal and work life can be messy. If your work address is your home address, you can suffer from privacy issues and also appear unprofessional in the eyes of partners and consumers.

What you want is a commercial address that looks the part

For low annual fees, you can acquire a virtual office address for your business. A virtual office address is essentially a rented address in a corporate location — often in London or another major urban centre. You can’t visit the address or go and work there, but you can use it for all your official business correspondence, including your company’s registered address.

All mail sent to the address of your registered office will be forwarded on to you. Your customers see only a professional business address while you don’t have to pay for expensive office space. Perfect!

To streamline this process, consider partnering with a reliable mailing equipment provider to ensure your mail handling is efficient and professional.

DETERMINE THE LEGAL STRUCTURE OF YOUR BUSINESS

Starting your own home business requires specialist knowledge and a good understanding of the law. To be able to appropriately manage the legal structure of your business, you need to be properly informed of the fine print.

The HM Revenue and Customs accept the following legal structures when it comes to home-based businesses: sole traders, business partnerships, and individual partners. As a sole trader, you can run your company as you like. The profits go to you after you’ve paid tax on them.

With business partnerships, things are more complicated in the sense that you share the profits and losses. Remember that the partner doesn’t have to be a person. Individual partners, on the other hand, are separate accounting entities, and keep their own records, file their own tax and the rest.

Individual partners, on the other hand, are separate accounting entities and keep their own records. They also file their VAT, GST, and other tax returns and take care of other tasks by themselves.

TAKE TIME TO SCHEDULE & FOCUS YOUR WORK

If you’re not used to working at home, running a home business can be a bit of a shock to the system. You are now responsible for your work completion, and there are no bosses or supervisors watching your every move. You are the only one accountable for your work. However, with this being your home, it’s easy to get distracted.

Your phone, your TV, pets, loved ones, even chores, are suddenly all within reach, and nobody is there to tell you to get back to work.

To stop yourself succumbing to temptation, we recommend that those not used to working from home spend time working on discipline and focus — following work plans that force them to avoid distractions within certain periods and making to-do and deadline-meeting lists to ensure things remain on track.

You need to behave like you’re in an office with eyes on your back, even if you aren’t.

ESTABLISH YOUR COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS

Communication in business is essential. Your ability to connect with customers and partners is nothing short of critical to your success. By working at home, you immediately enter a strange state of disconnect from the business world and the usual points of reference in your industry. This is your personal space, not a professional location and people may find that a barrier to the usual effortless communication you’ve shared.

Being at home is not a disadvantage, however, if you take the necessary steps to develop your communication network. How are you going to make sure that people can get in touch with you, and that you can reach out to other people? Phone calls and emails are standard practice, but other methods should be considered to diversify your dialogue channels. Social media platforms and professional messaging services like Slack, Zoom and other video conference software are all important.

That said, communication isn’t always a verbal thing. Sometimes, a customer may have a request (such as an order), or a partner may have a work task to assign you. You might also have to communicate non-verbally, when making supplier orders or sharing ideas via images. Make sure you have a separate way of communicating these needs. From websites to cloud project management software, there are plenty of tools out there to help you manage your communication needs.

MAKE TIME TO ESCAPE YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

Waking up, following your morning routine, working a full day from home, staying in, relaxing after work, following your evening routine, going to bed and then repeating it all the next day can become quite tedious. And that’s putting things mildly!

It’s so easy to fall into patterns of not leaving your home for days and days on end once you’ve turned it into an office space as well as a domestic one. But leaving those four walls for the vastness of the outside world is essential for your mental wellbeing, physical health and social life, not to mention your productivity at work.

The key to success is defining times for escape. Get involved in sports or exercise groups to provide a sense of accountability and scheduling to your outdoor activities. Make regular arrangements to meet friends in parks or cafés. Give yourself a reason to leave the house, or you might find you’ve meandered through a surprisingly long stretch of life without much to show for it.

EQUIPMENT SMARTS

Moreover, aspiring entrepreneurs need to keep focused. Wearable equipment is a great way to block out the noise, helping avoid distractions that would otherwise hinder your work. For example, augmentative wearables like the Hapbee headband emit signals your brain understands to tune out unhelpful emotions. Using Hapbee, you can better relax and focus on building your new business and keep any doubts or anxieties at bay.

Finally, getting that home office kitted out, comfortable and ergonomically sound is essential to your physical and emotional contentment when running a business from home.
